Baywatch: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

Matt Brody (Zac Efron) is a former Olympic swimmer who holds two gold medals under his name and because of a puking incident on national television; he ends up forcing his way to join a group of lifeguards led by Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson). Brody thinks that his elite status can easily earn him a spot on the team, but Mitch doesn't give a crap about his medals. However, Mitch decided to give Brody a chance and needs to prove his worth. But as the problem with drugs continues, Mitch and Brody must learn to co-exist to fight and prevent these illegal activities on their shore.

I was just a kid when this TV series started to roll and all I can remember is the hot girls in their bikinis running in a slow motion. I can't really tell the difference between the film and the series, but I assure you that this film will make you laugh hard and enjoy every minute of it. The movie got a very disappointing grade from the critics abroad, and I can't help myself from wondering why?

We attended the advance screening preview of the film last night and based on the reactions and laughs we've heard for past two hours; the film didn't fail to bring the comedy and entertainment factor that every moviegoer deserves. The jokes were extremely funny, the story was simple, and the casts were just the perfect choice for the new generation of Baywatch not mentioning some of the cameos from the original series.

A movie with Dwayne Johnson in it can't go wrong nowadays. He is just capable of doing anything, especially when it comes to action or comedy. Zac Efron, on the other hand, isn't new to this genre and basically walks right through it and delivers everything on a silver platter. The two shows an energetic chemistry that made this film funny and remarkable at the same time. The supporting cast also did shine in their own way with the beautiful Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach and Ilfenesh Hadera representing the gorgeous babes taking us back too the 90s plus the very reliable Jon Bass who adds more comedy power to the already awesome list of stars.

Overall, Baywatch is one of the best comedy films I've watched this year. The Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron connection is really impressive. The whole film entertained the hell out of me and please disregard every negative review so you can watch first before making a judgement if the movie sucks or not. But for me, this film is a good example why I love to watch movies on the big screen.
