The LEGO Batman Movie: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

Batman (voiced by Will Arnett) once again saved Gotham City against his arch nemesis in The Joker (voiced by Zach Galfianakis) who gathered every single villain whom the masked superhero fought in his entire career. He always fights solo and single-handedly defeats anyone who oppressed the law.  However, in his every victory, you can't simply take away that Batman has a lonely life as he lives in a huge mansion with his Butler Alfred (Ralph Fiennes) longing for his family. Soon, with some changes around Gotham City and the arrival of his self-proclaimed adopted son in Robin (Micheal Cera), Batman may not need to work alone anymore to face another villainous plot planted by Joker.

The LEGO Batman Movie started with a bang allowing the audience to laugh out loud with first minutes of the film. It never runs out of jokes as the whole film has enough batteries to fuel up all the comedy from start to finish. However, the film had tons of characters (refer to the crowded poster on the top) that may have been a bit too much to fit in just one movie. Yes, they are all charming characters, but sadly you can't simply take away that it became messy at some point.

I couldn't help myself from comparing it from the first film that definitely left a mark. I missed Emmet (voiced by Chris Pratt) and of course the song that is still stuck to my head in "Everything is Awesome." Plus, the story of the first one was a bit more solid and concrete unlike what they penned down in this one. Still, the film is entertainingly amusing and enjoyable all throughout.

The film also has a commendable voice-cast with Will Arnett owning Batman one more time. He delivered the lines perfectly which has a solid effect to its viewers. Zach Galfianakis came up with a decent performance for a very colorful Joker and surely Ralph Fiennes superbly did a terrific job for Alfred.

Overall, The LEGO Batman movie will be remembered as one of the most colorful and funniest Batman films in history. However, it came up short to follow up the awesome Lego Movie. Still, the film is hilariously good but overstuffed and exhausting at the same time.
