John Wick Chapter 2: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

After settling the score against the killers of his dog; John Wick (Keanu Reeves) returns home keeping his suit and guns cemented in his basement. He hopes for a peaceful retirement and leaves his old life buried into the ground. However, he is forced by Italian mobster Santino D'Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio) to repay his debts by killing his sister. Soon, John Wick finds himself stuck in the same life he wanted to forget with more assassins aiming to put him down for a huge amount of money.

John Wick was a surprise hit in 2014 - the film that resurrected the career of Keanu Reeves.  No wonder we already got its much-awaited sequel to our cinemas we've been waiting for the past two years. It's always a difficult task to overcome a film's predecessor without messing it up but returning director Chad Stahelski, have a lot of bullets inside his pockets for answers on how to make a bad-ass sequel.

Stahelski provided a steady story that doesn't need to complicate things were the audience will just simply enjoy their popcorn while watching. You'll leave the cinema breathless and satisfied at the outcome as the film obviously opens another window for the next chapter.

If you loved the first film, there is no reason for you to miss chapter 2 this week. It is still an action-packed extravaganza that will surely excite every action junkie. The action scenes remained stylish and of course a tremendous amount of body count that piles up to a hundred beating the record of the first film. Bloody and brutal yet, every shoot-em-up scenes are gripping and makes sure that no bad guy will come into waste.

Keanu Reeves continues to embrace the role as he keeps Mr. Wick to be that spectacular character that excites everyone, especially if already had a gun in his hand. He is still that same guy with a few words with a swagger look that says don't mess with me, or else you'll die.  Returning actors, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, Lance Reddick and Thomas Sadoski are still all part of the mix with Lawrence Fishburne and Common also enters the fray.

Overall, John Wick Chapter 2 continues the fun and thrill like its predecessor. I can't help myself  from hiding the excitement I felt while watching it last night. It is a fulfillment for a movie addict like me that  watching John Wick Chapter 2 is already crossed out of my bucket list.
