Moana: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

In a peaceful island of Motonui, lives a tribe of explorers who encounters a drought that will put them in dire straights. The only way to stop it from happening is by returning the stolen magical Heart of Te Fiti from where it belongs. Hawaiian demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) is the answer to this problem and a brave future chief Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) sails across the ocean to look for him.  Accompanied by a crazy rooster named Heihei (Alan Tudyk), Moana embarks to an exciting journey in her first adventure to save her tribe.

Before the film starts everyone will enjoy a short animated feature titled "Inner Workings." It is like a miniature version of  "Inside Out", that will surely set your mood in a nice way before the start of the main picture.

Disney continues to bring quality family films over the years. They have filled this year with entertaining releases like The Jungle Book and Zootopia. Now, before the arrival of the anticipated Rogue One, Disney introduces us to another Disney princess, who will easily capture the hearts of her audience. Moana is a fun-filled sea adventure that is boosted with an engaging voice cast led by a marvelous Auli'i Cravalho and the ever reliable Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Moana has the key elements of a successful Disney film. It has a delightful animation, charming characters, powerful story and solid humor. This time they created a crazy chicken that loves to eat rocks and always breaks the ice whenever it appears on the screen and Maui's tattoo that easily draws some attention. The film is also filled with outstanding tunes that will immediately stick on to your head and probably can start a mini-concert on your way home.

Overall, Moana is a sweet charming film that has the guns to entertain the whole family. We have another appealing Disney Princess to admire that not necessarily need to find his prince to make everything fascinating in the end.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 9 out of 10 stars
