Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

In 1926, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) visits New York for the first time after completing a global excursion to find and document different sets of magical creatures. However, his magical luggage was accidentally switched with a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob (Dan Fogler) with some of Newt's fantastic beasts escaping and causing trouble to both worlds. Soon, Newt must find a way to locate his beasts before its too late.

With the film under the smooth sailing direction of David Yates, Fantastic Beasts continues the magic of the saga we've all loved before. It may not have that same genuine feeling as before, but it still had that charm that is simply hard to resist. All of this wouldn't be possible without the admirable performances coming from its cast. Eddie Redmayne isn't Daniel Radcliffe but sure knows how to deliver Newt Scamander with pure heart and soul. He simply does everything right and obviously embraced his role standing on his ground owning this franchise.

We've also loved the supporting characters with Dan Fogler owning the spotlight whenever he is on the screen. He is the spark plug of  the humor department, and the audience laughed and cheered with his enjoyable character. There are some few surprises from here and there but what made the film remarkable is the fact that it knows how to give the viewers what they've been missing after the departure of the Harry Potter saga. It keeps the crowd alive and introduces them to the same world but with different characters we can also look forward to.

The visuals were terrific except if you're going to watch it on a screen with a dim projection. It will definitely cost the quality of the film which happened to us last night. It's also best to find the right seat so you will enjoy every beat and effects throughout the film.

Overall, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them transport you back to the place you've loved before. The magic still lives even after the post Harry Potter era. It may not been that spectacular, but it is certainly a welcome addition to the wizardly world made by J.K. Rowling.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 7 out of 10 stars
