Trolls: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

It's been 20 years since the Trolls escaped the hands of the Bergens at the annual Trollstice which they become the main dish of the barbaric feast. Now, the Trolls live in a peaceful village far away from these giants. However, when Princess Poppy (Anna Kendrick) decided to celebrate a loud party for their 20th year of freedom, one Bergen finds their location and kidnaps her friends. With all the positiveness in her genes, Princess Poppy decided to enlist the help of a hot-headed troll named Branch (Justin Timberlake). Soon, the two embarks on a dangerous mission to save their friends and stop the revival of the annual Trollstrice.

Trolls is the equivalent of an animated Pitch Perfect that sets up a vibrant atmosphere inside the cinema. These lovable tiny characters knows exactly how to deliver the laughs and entertainment straight right at the hearts of its viewers. It's a colorful and lively animated film that is arguably the best one released for this year. The film sets up a familiar story line but tweaked into a unique and clever way. The musical numbers are infectious as I really want to bust my moves with their soundtrack and Justin Timberlake's version of True Colors gave me goosebumps.

The voice cast are tremendously the perfect choice as Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick really compliment each other. They gave life to these wonderful characters and make you remember the musical numbers. The supporting cast also did a pretty nice job lending their voice talent as the likes of Russell Brand, Gwen Stefani, Quvenzhane Wallis, James Corden and the lovable Zooey Deschanel provided the energy that the film needs.

Overall, Trolls is a colorful and imaginative animated film that has the potential to be a successful franchise. It is impressive throughout with captivating versions of songs that will make you sing while watching. It is a perfect flick for the whole family to enjoy and there is no reason for you to miss this when the Trolls invade the cinemas next week.
