The Disappointments Room: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

Dana (Kate Beckinsale) is still mourning with the recent death of her baby daughter and to ease the pain her husband David (Mel Raido) suggests that they move into an old house in the country with their son Lucas (Duncan Joiner) and have a fresh new start for their family. The house was huge but needs some extensive repairs because of the leaks from the roof. However, it is not the only problem that Dana encounters as she discovers a hidden room at the attic. Soon, when Dana discovers the terrifying secrets in that room, it quickly gets inside her head  which gives her a harder time to recover and make her struggle to identify which is real and which is not.

The Disappointments Room is another psychological horror thriller built inside a haunted house that basically we've all seen before. It is filled with pretentious jump scares that really don't connect well with its viewers. The film also suffers with the dull story, and it completely lacks in scare factor to back it all up. The characters are thinly drawn and there are a lot of questions that were left hanging in the air.

The only lone bright spot is Kate Beckinsale. She justifies her role even it is poorly written. While the other casts were pretty boring. Mel Raido doesn't do anything and mostly appears like he is just a cameo role. Lucas Till's inclusion was just completely nonsense as he is a wasted talent on the screen.

Overall, The Disappointments Room is a Kate Beckinsale show but even her presence couldn't save the film from its disappointing result. The title already gives you a hint on what will be your reaction afterwards; caution you've been warned.
