Keeping Up With The Joneses: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

Jeff (Zach Galifianakis) and Karen Gaffney (Isla Fisher) is an average couple who have a happy family and lives in a quiet neighborhood. However, their lives changes when the Joneses move in. Tim Jones (Jon Hamm) and his wife Natalie (Gal Gadot) seems to be the perfect couple but there is something in them that makes Karen a bit suspicious. Soon, Jeff and Karen learned that their new neighbors are spies, and they are investigating Jeff's workplace to find the culprit that transacts with a crime lord who is planning to start an international espionage.

The film is currently sitting at a very disappointing 13% at rotten tomatoes' website. It's very surprising since we really had a good time last night while watching its advance screening. It is your typical spy comedy film that has nothing fresh to offer but surely knows how to deliver the goods at the right time. The brand of comedy is effective as the cast did a great job with their respective roles.

Zach Galifianakis rise up and deliver an outstanding performance as most of the fun parts were served by him in a hot platter. Jon Hamm was also tremendous and a bright spot in this awesome cast. Their respective female counterparts also did a great job in providing the energy and comedy that the film needs with Isla Fisher and Gal Gadot knowing when to hit the right notes every time they are on the screen.

Overall, Keeping Up With The Joneses is a decent comedy film that is enjoyable all throughout. It may not be one of the best comedy films released this year, but it has the firepower to sustain the momentum of the entire thing resulting to an entertaining finish.
