The Magnificent Seven: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

After the death of his husband from the hands of the ruthless land baron (Peter Sasgaard), Emma Cullen (Haley Bennett) seeks revenge and freedom to her hometown of Rose Creek. She recruits a bounty hunter - Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington) for his services. However, Sam needs a cavalry to back him up, so he decided to recruit six brave souls Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D'Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier)  to join with him in war. Soon, the magnificent seven builds up a plan and prepares for an epic western shoot out.

The Magnificent Seven is an astounding western themed film that features a spectacular showdown that will simply entertain a lot of action junkies. The fights are already a price of admission where our protagonists will have a lot of bodies to share and drop in style. It's like a film that you have already seen before but still you want to stick out and see it again to wait for the highlight reels.

Antoine Fuqua brings us the remake of The Magnificent Seven with an outstanding set of actors who can generate a lot of fun and light up the screen in an instant. He also knows how to deliver the action with style and keeps the audience thrilled from start to finish. The problem is the characters are pretty shallow and needed more depth or a bit of back story.

Denzel Washington leads the pack and lends his A-game to show who's the boss. Chris Pratt delivers his swagger and humor making him more charming like in just what he did in his previous roles. It's nice to see Ethan Hawke back in an action flick while Byung-Hun Lee will instantly turn you into a fan. Peter Sarsgaard also played well as the film's main villain while Haley Bennett finally had her time to shine.

Overall, The Magnificent Seven delivers the action you ordered gift wrapped by Director Antonie Fuqua. It may have fell short in other departments but with the bullets and bodies flying everywhere plus a remarkable cast to pump it up, there is no other reason for me to complain.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 9 out of 10 stars
