The Achy Breaky Hearts: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

As what I've said when I watched " All You Need is Pag-Ibig" last December, a movie staring Jodi Sta Maria and Ian Veneracion need to happen soon. Finally, Star Cinema grants the appeal and adds Richard Yap in the mix with a very talented director in Antoinette Jadaone.

Jewelry store manager Chinggay (Jodi Sta. Maria) is already in her 30s and pressured to find his one true love. She can't still get over with her past relationship and stayed single for the last seven years. However, everything changes when two men suddenly became interested to her. Ryan (Ian Veneracion) bought an engagement ring on her store but after being rejected by his girlfriend the two eventually became friends. Frank (Richard Yap), Chinggay's ex-boyfriends also returned and ask for a second chance and proved himself that he is already a changed man. Soon, Chinggay finds herself torn between two men and must decide who to be with this time around.

The Achy Breaky Hearts is an entertaining rom-com thanks to its lead stars. Jodi Sta. Maria continues to impress as she is undeniably likable in every role she has. She managed to connect to the audience and shared a great chemistry with  his two leading men. Ian Veneracion and Richard Yap were also good with their performances. It will make you think twice in picking a team to cheer to win the heart of Chinggay.

As for the story, it is enjoyable enough and funny at times but feels that there is still something missing that will make the entire film memorable. I am just expecting more in what I've already seen with "All You Need is Pag-Ibig" or the same feeling when I watch "Be Careful With My Heart."

Overall, The Achy Breaky Hearts is still a passable rom-com popcorn flick. However, it's like a glass of soda that needs an ice to satisfy your thirst.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 6 out of 10 stars
