The Conjuring 2: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) wants to lie-low and stop accepting new cases because of a premonition she saw where her husband Ed (Patrick Wilson) dies. She suggests that they should just educate the public and stop confronting supernatural forces. However, when a family across the Atlantic needed their help, the two were convinced to investigate and get some evidence to satisfy the Catholic church that it isn't a hoax. Soon, the two must need to confront a malevolent spirit that is haunting them for the longest time and save the family who badly needs their help in order to survive.

James Wan's "The Conjuring" is another surprise hit in 2013, which impressed a lot of critics and horror fanatics all across the globe. I love the first part and even made it as my top horror movie for that year. Now, Director James Wan together with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are back to replicate the same success of their previous entry.

The trailer of The Conjuring 2 isn't that spooky enough so I've already assumed that this might be just another Hollywood cash-grab sequel. However, after seeing the film last night in a special advance screening, I was amused with James Wan's craft in making a stunning horror film. He just knows how to bring his audience to experience the dark realm and play through their minds.

Like its predecessor, The film managed to provide a solid story with the tension slowly builds its momentum in every scene. It just simply creates an eerie atmosphere inside the cinema where you can really feel the chill of each scary scene. I was just pissed off with some people who tend to scream, and laugh even there is nothing happening which ruins the entire scare factor of it.

Again, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga were simply outstanding from start to finish. You can also get a lot from Madison Wolfe and Frances O’Connor. Their presence were felt in each scene and provided a tremendous performance throughout the entire film.

Overall, The Conjuring 2 continues to unleash the horror in its second salvo. This installment won't disappoint especially the fans of this genre. If you really want to watch a decent horror film, then The Conjuring 2 is highly recommended.
