Me Before You: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

Happy-go-lucky girl Lou Clark (Emilia Clarke) recently lost her job and badly needs a new one to keep her family afloat as her younger sister (Jenna Coleman) wants to go back to school. Soon, she finds work as the caregiver of depressed paralyzed man Will Traynor (Sam Claflin). At first, the two couldn't get along with each other but with Clark's charm; the two fall in love but will it change Will's decision that is already made before he met her?

It is the love month all over again as Me Before You finally arrive in cinemas this June 15. The trailer already touched a lot of movie buffs and instantly put this film on their watch list for this month. Well, I can say that the film is really romantic, but it feels that it is still missing a kick that could actually touch your heart. The story is lovely, where a typical girl meets a snobbish guy, and eventually the two fall in love. But what separates this film from other tearjerker flicks is the lovely chemistry between the two lead stars.

Me Before You benefits from the great on-screen combination between Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin. Clarke's energy is simply outstanding. She brings so much into the table, and it is just so fun to see her enjoying her role while wearing colorful outfits. This is an eye-opener for her to have more projects soon outside of the successful Game of Thrones' series. Sam Claflin is equally fantastic as Will Traynor. You can feel the pain and agony of a struggling man who can't do anything but to pity himself. The rest of the casts simply compliment  the two lead stars to make the whole thing work.

The entire film is full of charm with plenty of exquisite scenery to add more taste to the picture. The soundtrack also helped a lot in giving the right mix of tunes and play with the emotions of its viewers. All the flaws and cliches are forgivable as the cast really worked hard to make the film lovely and touching.

Overall, Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin made Me Before You satisfying. It's just fun to see these two actors  go at it and create those magical moments. Though it might have been better, Me Before You succeed to be a romantic tearjerker flick.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 9 out of 10 stars
