This Time: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

Ava and Coby (Nadine Lustre and James Reid) are best friends since they were kids. As time passes, the two already developed their feelings with each other but the problem is they only see each other every summer vacation. Things even became more complicated when Coby's grandfather (Freddie Webb) decided to look for his long-lost love (Nova Villa) preventing Coby to return sooner and see Ava. Soon, the two try to make their long-distance relationship work and when they finally met again; they aren't sure whether they would take a step further and give their love a chance to reach a new level.

After the recent success of "On the Wings of Love," real-life couples Nadine Lustre and James Reid  continue to treat their fans with the release of their newest film This Time; which is scheduled to open today in cinemas. They were greeted by a mammoth size crowd in their premiere night at SM Megamall last night, and we are indeed lucky to be one of the first ones to see the film on the big screen.

This Time sells a pretty simple love story that the audience can easily chew. However, the film is saddled by the basic romantic cliches we've already seen before. Still, there are a lot of "kilig" and cheesy moments throughout that will surely bring its avid fans with something to look forward to. There are also a lot funny moments that really made the film feels so light.  It's just a bit annoying to see the product placement over and over again throughout the film.

What we really like about this love team is that they act very natural in front of the camera. Their feelings with each other are mutual where you can really feel the authenticity. James Reid and Nadine Lustre continue to impress with the two providing a great chemistry the entire time and never let the audience down even having a weak script. The supporting cast injects the much-needed energy with Candy Pangilinan leading the charge and stealing the spotlight every time with her comedy antics.

Overall, This Time is still pretty enjoyable and entertaining throughout. However, Jadine really needs a director like Antoinette Jadaone for them to replicate the same experience we felt while watching On the Wings of Love every night.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 7 out of 10 stars
