Criminal: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

CIA Agent Bill Pope (Ryan Reynolds), is murdered in the middle of his mission and the only way to extract the vital information that the CIA needs is by doing an experimental operation that can transfer the memories and skill-set of a dead person and implant it to another man. Their chosen candidate is a prisoner named Jerico Stewart (Kevin Costner), but he refuses to reveal the details they need. Soon, Jerico is haunted by Pope's memories and started to find himself drawn to her widowed wife (Gal Gadot).

The film tries so hard to sell its over-stuffed premise but couldn't capitalize well enough as it squanders the  talent of its outstanding cast. It couldn't seize the momentum at full force even it has those thrilling and exciting moments throughout. The action scenes also can't bring enough satisfaction except for the final frame, but it is a bit too late in stepping the gas pedal.

Kevin Costner is quite solid in portraying Jerico. He is entertaining enough to take the lead role even he has an impressive set of wasted supporting talents backing him up. We wished that Ryan Reynolds could turn up as Deadpool at some point and Gal Gadot will suddenly made an appearance as Wonder Woman, but they were just plain side dishes that didn't turn out the way you expected them to be. Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Oldman were also thrown into the mix but were just also a decoration that couldn't provide enough spark.

Overall, Criminal is neither a bad or a good film. It will just depend upon the viewers' perspective, whether he can appreciate the silliness of its premise.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 5.5 out of 10 stars
