Bastille Day: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Mason (Richard Madden) is an American pickpocket who unfortunately stole the bag of Zoe (Charlotte Le Bon) containing a bomb. Mason thought that he just stole a junk and threw the bag to the dumpster and then the bomb exploded resulting to four casualties. A CCTV footage identifies Mason as the bomber and CIA officer Sean Briar (Idris Elba) is thrown on the case to track him down. Soon, as the two finally cross paths' Briar realizes that Mason is innocent, so he enlists his help to track down the group which is planning to bring chaos to the city on Bastille Day.

The film is a pretty decent action-thriller. It is well-paced with neat action sequences to keep the audiences thrilled throughout. With some of the best moments allowing us to witness spectacular rooftop chases and sneaky thief tricks. The plot is ridiculous, but it was delivered in a clever fashion where-in you won't care much as long as you get entertained from start to finish.

Idris Elba is solid throughout as he proved that he can be a force in running an action franchise. He just needs a bit of charisma like Liam Neeson to make him more invulnerable. He needs to lose some stiffness and have a little humor in his pocket. Richard Madden also had his moments but needed more spark in his acting. The two are simply fun to watch and just carried the film on their backs.

Overall, Bastille Day is silly but also an enjoyable action flick that is worth-seeing on the big screen. Idris Elba continues to impress in this potential movie franchise and basically gave a gutsy action 90-minute thriller.
