The 5th Wave: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Cassie (Chloe Grace Moretz) is a simple teenage girl living in the quiet suburbs in Ohio. However, her life changes when the aliens (The Others) invade the Earth and inflicted waves against humanity. The first wave disables everyone from using power and communication; the second wave is a series of fatal disaster; the third one is an airborne disease from birds wiping out almost half of the population. When the 4th wave has began and the others are already inhabiting humans as host. Soon, when Cassie got separated with her younger brother; she must try to survive her own while looking for a way to find her brother and stop the 5th wave from happening.

There are a lot of successful YA adaptations that made a mark for the past few years while other struggles to come-up with a follow up as their film backfired. Here comes another one with The 5th Wave top-billed by the promising Chloe Grace Moretz and aliens to make it a bit exciting.

The film was okay; it isn't spectacular enough to make an actual wave but watching the stunning Chloe Grace Moretz on the big screen for us is already fun. They could have added some other key elements to make it a thrilling ride, but instead they were contented with it moving in a very slow pace. The CGI is also not polished, and it's pretty generic at times. It's quite understandable since it's just the first entry in this trilogy. I hope they could do better in the sequel and add more firepower to heat some things up.

Overall, The 5th Wave is still a passable entertainment. There are a lot of ideas to be explored in their premise. They just need to execute neatly to have its own ground against other YA franchise to make their own mark.
