The Revenant: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Everyone is one week away from seeing the brilliance of The Revenant glaring on the big screen and as a bonus, you can also experience it for one week on IMAX theaters. Thanks to 20TH Century Fox PH, we don't need to wait longer as we've seen the epic picture last night. We won't be surprised if Director  Alejandro González Iñárritua nails his second Oscar win and we feel that this is the right time for Leo to reach the top of the pedestal.

After being brutally attacked by a bear, Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) was left for dead by his own hunting team. Adding more pain to his almost lifeless body is the death of his son in the hands of his comrade, John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Glass tries to survive the extreme winter along with all the injuries he has in order to find redemption.

The Revenant is another story about revenge and survival, but it opts to bring its viewers to experience a one-of-a-kind and memorable cinematic masterpiece. It started with a striking opening scene and fueled up with stunning cinematography to back it up. With a bloated run-time, we thought the film would become tedious at some point, but we didn't notice that 156 minutes have passed quickly.  We've enjoyed every single frame with brutal and heart-stopping sequences. Plus an awesome and incredible camera work throughout the whole film c/o Emmanuel Lubezki.

This is by far the best performance of Leonardo DiCaprio. He justified his win in the Golden Globes and most probably will earn his first elusive Oscar Award next month. However, it's not just Leo but also a notable performance as well for Mr. Tom Hardy. They both deliver and executed their roles perfectly from start to finish.

Overall, The Revenant transports you to experience a gripping tale of survival. It is a well-crafted gem that is rich in details, has an outstanding cast and perfect grandiose visuals.  It could win the tight race against the greatness of Mad Max: Fury Road on this year's Academy Awards.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 10 out of 10 stars
