Criminal Activities: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Noah (Dan Stevens), reunites with his college friends at the funeral of their ex-classmate. He invited them to strike a deal on a stock with a win-win situation and will instantly make them a millionaire. However, the deal went sour and all their investments went into drain and making the things worst: they need to pay the money they borrowed from Eddie (John Travolta) who turns out to be a mobster. Soon, Eddie creates another deal for them to settle their debt, but the problem is they did to kidnap a family member of Eddie's rival kingpin for them to erase the big bill out of their names.

We really thought that this film would be boring like its poster. The trailer isn't catchy as well; so we didn't expect much when we attended the advance screening last night at SM Megamall. However, this simple crime thriller had enough juice to make the momentum flowing. There isn't much action in it but the story kept us from getting intrigued even there are a lot of worthless things and conversations stuffed in it to make the entire thing running.

The unpredictability of it is one of the major surprises that this film gives. The twist hits up in a satisfying manner wherein you'll never imagined that it would turn out that way. It is also mixed with smart and dark humor that kept the audiences thrilled at times. The cast also seems to enjoy their roles and gave in their best shots in their performances.

Overall, Criminal Activities is a satisfying crime thriller. It came up with too many ideas to make the whole thing interesting. It may be crammed and tries to be too smart at times but in lieu to Hollywood Blockbuster spectacle, the movie has enough bullets to pull up a fight.
