Relative Happiness: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Lexy Ivy (Melissa Bergland) is a great cook and the owner of the Ivy Cottage Bed & Breakfast in a small town in Nova Scotia. Lexie's sister Gabby (Molly Dunsworth) is about to get married, and her family is expecting her to have a date to the wedding day. Her prayers were answered when a handsome traveler named Adrian (Johnathan Sousa) checked-in to her cottage. Soon, Lexy invites Adriane to be her date to the wedding, but things get complicated quickly when Lexy finds out Adriane's true agenda.

We had the chance to see the advance screening of Relative Happiness last night at Gateway Cineplex thanks to Solar Pictures. We really didn't expect that the film would turn out really good. Even though the film rides on a familiar route and quite predictable at times; it still manages to deliver a few surprises. The comedy is built in to it with a very charming lead actress in Melissa Bergland. She basically stood out and stole the whole show with her very enigmatic performance.

The film carries an interesting story, with the first half focusing more with the comedy to set the mood of its viewers. The second part shifts to a dramatic tone where you'll feel the struggles and emotions that the characters need to deal with. But, still, it never looses the light comedic touch to keep the audience entertained from start to finish.

Overall, Relative Happiness is a sweet fluffy romantic comedy film that is likable throughout thanks to a very appealing Melissa Bergland. It may be cliched and predictable, but it knows how and when too deliver the goods at the right time. It's definitely worth checking out especially if you love rom-com flicks.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 8 out of 10 stars

Relative Happiness TrailerOpens December 9Solar PicturesSynopsis: Plus–sized and 30 years old, LEXIE IVY is a feisty bed & breakfast owner who desperately needs a date to her sister’s wedding. In small town Nova Scotia, that’s no easy task, especially when the most eligible bachelor is JOSS, the rough handyman fixing her roof. When ADRIAN, a handsome and charming guest, arrives and seems to take an interest in Lexie, she thinks all her problems are solved. But she misreads the situation and is soon reeling, believing her romantic dream has slipped away, maybe forever. Lexie then needs to open her heart and eyes to see that love may be a lot closer than she thought. RELATIVE HAPPINESS is a romantic comedy, every bit as feisty as Lexie herself, starring Australian actress, MELISSA BERGLAND, in a breakout role, based on the best-selling novel by Lesley Crewe.
