Creed: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

We got Jake Gyllenhaal's Southpaw earlier this year, and it was already good enough to throw some punches in and out. Here comes Creed, the seventh and the spin-off to the epic series Rocky that wants to continue the same tradition which brought this franchise into stardom.

Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) grew up in a juvenile facility after his mom died. He never knew his father until he is introduced to Mary Anne Creed (Phylicia Rashad), the widow of Apollo Creed. She takes Adonis under his wing and give him a new life. However, Adonis wants to start a legacy of his own inside the ring but doesn't want to get associated with his father's name. The only problem is that Adonis doesn't have a trainer to guide him as he enlists the help of Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) who is now retired and runs a small restaurant in Philadelphia.

We need a refresher's course since we really don't remember any of the Rocky classics. But, it really doesn't matter as Creed takes into the ring and tries to make a name for himself. At first, we really don't think that this film would be that great as the trailer looks to simple and doesn't give anything exciting to look forward to. But,  Creed takes on to the challenge in bringing in a mesmerizing tale of a boxer who rises to the occasion when it really matters.

Creed is one of those films that is really hard to pass on since it is tightly moving and engaging throughout. It didn't focused on the fights but delivers a gripping drama that digs deeper to extract the main core. Every moment is cherished as the film had the heart that centers through the drama but still providing solid fights to keep the audience thrilled at times.

Fans of the original Rocky series would definitely love this one. Sylvester Stallone finally hangs his gloves up and gives a heartwarming performance that at least needs a nomination. Michael B. Jordan also excels and embraces his character. We already feel his emotion by just simply looking in his fiery eyes and stance.

Overall, Creed is beautifully made and equipped with a solid story to back it up. Stallone passed the torch to the perfect guy, who can start his own legacy. Michael B. Jordan simply nailed this one.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 10 out of 10 stars
