The Last Witch Hunter: Movie Review

 By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Before Kaulder (Vin Diesel) defeated and killed the Witch Queen (Julie Engelbrecht), it curses him to have an eternal life. After 800 years to the present, Kaulder now works for a secret Catholic society called the Axe and the Cross and his job it is to impose a truce between humans and witches. Kaulder is guided by the 36th Dolan (Micheal Caine) but was replaced by 37th Dolan (Elijah Wood) when a mysterious witch casts an evil spell to the older priest. Soon, Kaulder must find out the motives of the attacker while needing the help of Chloe (Rose Leslie) to search his lost memories.

The film is on cue from the start but suddenly lost its steam when the film jumps into the present time. Everything seems to be fine, especially with Vin Diesel leading the charge by using his charm. He is alongside with an equally great actor In Micheal Caine and an outstanding actress in Rose Leslie. However, the film can't seem to have anything going except having some fancy visual effects that are no longer interesting in the long run.

The story is also predictable. There is no element of surprise nor anything new to cheer about. It is still a passable flick, but you won't even care what would happen next. It cannot connect to its audience even Vin Diesel's charm couldn't save this film from the disaster.

Overall, The Last Witch Hunter tried but not hard enough to give something new out of this genre. Enjoyable? Yes, but also forgettable at the same time.
