By The Sea: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

By The Sea features Mr. and Mrs. Pitt reuniting on the screen but without any full throttle-action sequences to save the viewers from not getting bored. Instead, the two tries to save their married life with the help of a hole on the wall spying a newly-wed couple.

Set in the 70's Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Pitt plays as Roland and Vanessa Bertand, a married couple from New York who traveled to a gloriously quiet town in France for a vacation. While Roland tries to relax his mind to continue his new novel, Vanessa is left behind inside the hotel medicating and trying to move on from her dark past. The two barely talk until the arrival of the young newlyweds next to their room, Francois (Melvil Poupaud) and Lea (Melanie Laurent). Vanessa found a cure to her loneliness when she discovered a hole connected to the next room hidden behind the table as she watches the couple make love every day. Soon, when Roland finds out the new past time of her wife; he joins her in spying their neighbors hoping to spark their ailing relationship.

Once again, Angelina Jolie-Pitt, experimented something different but miserably fails to deliver. The pacing is slow, but the first half is intriguing. However, we were able to get the catch early before the twist was even revealed. The film suffers from being repetitive where nothing seems to happen. It is basically, a walk-through of a married couple trying to figure out what went wrong and how to ignite the flames of their marriage.

Overall, By The Sea is gorgeously shot and has an outstanding cinematography but frustratingly long and empty. It is a film that will test your patience to learn and appreciate Angelina Jolie's latest project.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 4 out of 10 stars
