The Walk: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

On the morning of August 7, 1974, A young French man Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) went for a death defying act by walking across a wire strung between the World Trade Center Towers of New York. We follow his early life in Paris, working as a street performer and made a name when he wire-walks between the towers of Notre Dame Cathedral. Philippe wanted to bring his talents to New York, but first he must learn some techniques from his mentor (Ben Kingsley) and seek for accomplices to help him do the unthinkable act.

The Walk is an incredible feature coming from visual wizard director Robert Zemeckis who magnificently brought back the Twin Towers in a glorious 3D IMAX version. It is a one-of-a-kind experience as you'll feel that you are a part of this exhilarating show. The film is wrapped in tension with every step Philippe makes hoping that he'll cross safely on the other end.

The film is pretty tedious at some point and feels a bit long in a two-hour run time. However, when it reached the latter part with Philippe and his accomplices doing dangerous “coup”; it manages to bring out breathtaking scenes that basically the main course of this astounding masterpiece.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt provided a great level of lunacy and delivers the energy into his character. He also manages to pull off his French accent neatly. Exceptional supporting performance coming from Ben Kingsley, Charlotte Le Bon, Ben Schwartz, Clement Sibony and César Domboy

Overall, The Walk is an outstanding picture with impeccable visuals and stunning execution. Robert Zemeckis remakes the legendary tale of passion and determination of one man to overcome the odds in reaching his dreams. It is a gorgeous cinematic experience, and a must see on an IMAX screen.
