Ricki and the Flash: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

With a limited release Meryl Streep returns as punk rocker mom in her latest film Ricki and the Flash. Linda Brummell also known as Ricki Rendazzo (Meryl Streep) left his husband and three children to pursue her dream to be a rock star. However, a one phone call from her ex-husband Pete (Kevin Kline), made her to fly back home to Indianapolis where her daughter Julie (Mamie Gummer) is suffering from post-divorce depression. Can Ricki come up with a solution and be a mother to her daughter this time around?

Ricki and the Flash is a feel-good movie. It's just nice to see Meryl Streep seal the deal once again. It may not win her any recognition, but still she was able to win the hearts of the viewers. It's fun to see her together  with her daughter Mami Gummer, as the acting came out natural like a mother and daughter bonding. Even the film is sailing into a familiar trope; it avoided to be boring and not settling with a fairy-tale ending. It managed to stay within the boundary of reality. It also got a couple of good tracks that would get stuck to your head after you walk out the cinema.

Overall, Ricki and the Flash is another milestone for Meryl Streep. It's just simply fun to see her wearing a black rock-star getup while hitting her guitar hard and playing a nice set of  renditions together with Rick Springfield. It's a good film to spend your extra time and appreciate Meryl Streep in an unfamiliar territory.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 7 out of 10 stars
