Fantastic Four (2015): Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

When Reed Richards and Ben Grimm (Miles Teller and  Jamie Bell) were trying to create a teleportation device since they were little kids. Eventually, they succeeded but all they do is to teleport a toy car to an unknown place with some bits of rocks returning to its place. Seven years later, they tried to do the same project in their school science fair, which caught the attention of Dr. Franklin Storm (Reg E. Cathey) and his adopted daughter Sue (Kate Mara) which is also doing the same research. From there, Dr Franklin recruited Reed into Baxter Institute to team up with his crew and build a bigger version which allows them to teleport to that place and learns all of its mysterious resources.

The last two Fantastic Four film were fine but a lot were disappointed with its outcome. Finally, they decided to reboot it with a different set of actors in a pace that we didn't expected. Sadly, they failed to inject new life to this ailing franchise. They lacked in different aspects to make the quartet to have enough breathing room to operate and showcase their super powers. We didn't feel the Marvel atmosphere nor the enthusiasm from its lead stars.

Director Josh Trank brilliantly sets up the whole idea in the first half but takes too much time building it. It leads to a painful result where he crams in the end and had difficulties in holding all the pieces together. The second half was just simply messed up including the Earth saving fiasco that had a little time to operate. It offers a little excitement in the big finale that you've waited the whole time to happen.

Overall Fantastic Four is intriguing at some point but its a bit sluggish for a Marvel film. The promising cast may have gone to waste, but we are still hoping for a complete turnaround when they make the sequel in 2017.

Lakwastera Lovers rates it 4.5 out of 10 stars
