Outcast: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

It currently stands at 6% at Rotten Tomatoes so we didn't expect too much in the newest flick of Nicolas Cage. We thought that this film might be a lousy medieval disaster like "Season of the Witch" but guess we're wrong as the film is quite enjoyable enough for us and give it a passing mark.

12th-century Crusader Jacob (Hayden Christensen) and his mentor Gallain (Nicholas Cage) decided to part ways after annihilating every army on their path in the Middle East. Three years later, Jacob is now a wanderer in China and stumbles into a fight; rescuing Princess Lian (Liu Yifei) and her little brother Zhao (Bill Su Jiahang). He learns that the two are trying to hide from their older sibling (Andy On) who wants to steal the throne. Soon, Jacob decided to help them and eventually meets Gallain in the process.

The story is cliched and a bit uninspired. However with a the film's rapid pace and decent fight scenes; it is just plainly entertaining. It keeps on moving forward even it is really easy to guess on what is going to happen next. We understand the hate for Nicolas Cage as he seems to be contented in doing B-movies after an impressive start in his resume. He even manages to win an Academy Award but all of that may have been forgotten. For us, we still love Nicolas Cage as he is always fun to watch in playing mediocre characters. He is solid here but Hayden Christensen just stole the show.

Overall, Outcast  never lost the appeal as it is outstanding throughout. We never get bored or tired watching it and we really didn't seem to understand on why the film keep on receiving some negative remarks. We feel that Nicolas Cage still got a lot of gas in his tank and we will keep our faith in him.
