Spy: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Writer-director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids & The Heat) reunites with Melissa McCarthy, who plans to erase the sour taste of her previous flicks (Tammy & Identity Theft) and redeem herself as a first-time spy agent in the field. Feig comes up with another comedy formula that actually works. It is silly and smart, which is really entertaining from start to finish.

Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy), a veteran CIA analyst and the eyes and ears of his super-spy partner Bradley Fine (Jude Law) keeping him safe from his dangerous missions. However, her biggest break came when an arms' dealer Rayna (Rose Byrne) named all the identities of all the top CIA agents in the field and the only way to get a lead is by sending an unknown agent to track her down. Soon, Susan embarks in her first mission in the field but with an old-fashioned secret identity and not so cool spy gadgets that she always dreamed of.

The film delivers a solid comedy that is simply enjoyable well, thanks to its committed stars. Melissa McCarthy regains her touch and managed to give up pretty much of everything from physical and verbal form of comedy. Jude Law adds some flavor into the mix as the charismatic agent and Rose Byrne is an effective bitchy villain. The supporting cast were great as well with Miranda Hart, Peter Serafinowicz and Allison Janney all providing some quality minutes and who thought Jason Statham could be that funny.

Overall Spy is the funniest film released this year and beneath its violence is the humor that never fades out. For us, it is one of the finest work by Paul Feig (sorry Bridesmaids fans), and we simply can't wait on what he will have next to add in his already impressive resume in this kind of genre.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 9.5 out of 10 stars
