It Follows: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Currently sitting at 96% score at Rotten Tomatoes, It Follows continues to impress critics with its unique story and slick style by Director David Robert Mitchell. It's a modern horror picture but with a classic approach.

Jay Height (Maika Monroe) is a shy type high school girl who usually spends time on her backyard pool. She got a date with her new boyfriend  (Jake Weary), and they had sex in the car. He tells her that he passed a curse on her where something would follow her and will kill her. It moves slowly and changes appearance each time, and it may look like someone she knows. The only way for her to save her life is to pass the curse by having sex with someone else.

It Follows is an effective horror picture. It is simple but creates a terrifying atmosphere where-in you'll feel the chills throughout the entire film. Director David Robert Mitchell uses a shape-shifting monster where it can be a naked girl, a tall man or even an elderly woman as his medium who will cause the viewers to scan every single person on the crowd. The idea if even more powerful as Jay is the only one who can see it, which causes more trouble.

Overall, It Follows isn't the film that will cause you nightmares when you sleep at night. It isn't also not your ordinary horror picture that will rely on eerie noises or computer generated ghouls that will tend to jump out in the middle of nowhere in order to scare you. It's simplicity and originality definitely brings a lot on the table for the audience to experience something new in this kind of genre.
