The Duff: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

The DUFF which stands as Designated Ugly Fat Friend where one person in a group of friends is the most approachable one and apparently make the rest look a lot better. It stars Bella Thorne and the very witty Mae Whitman, who carried the film most of the way.

Bianca (Mae Whitman) is a high-school teenage girl that had two gorgeous friends, Jessica and Casey (Skyler Samuels and Bianca Santos.) They are very much fond of doing the same things together until Bianca's hottie schoolmate neighbor Wesley (Robbie Amell) tells her that she is the DUFF in her group. She thinks that it's just a joke at first, but then she realizes that Wesley is right. Soon, Bianca left her friends and starts to do the thing on her own and tries her best to be unique with the help of her new-found friend, Wesley.

The premise is really fun and entertaining. We thought that the film was boring, but it turned out that it's not just a typical teen comedy film. It has a lot to offer despite the very plain poster. Mae Whitman did well even if she's not really fat or ugly. She had that willingness to do anything that made her character shine from start to finish. She and Robbie Amell had an interesting chemistry that made the entire film lively throughout. It just a shame that there are some wasted talents like Bella Thorn who plays an ordinary b*tch which really wouldn't matter at the end and Ken Jeong that are only used as a simple decoration.

Overall, The Duff is an average teen comedy film that is quite amusing; well, thanks to the charming performance coming from Mae Whitman. There are a lot of fun moments, and the film's wit stands tall as they executed an enjoyable teen formula that actually worked.
