Run All Night: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

First, we would like to thank Warner Brothers Pictures PH for inviting us last night to the special screening of Run All Night at Glorietta 4 Cinemas. We are excited to see this flick because of Liam Neeson teaming up with Mr. Robocop, Joel Kinnaman trying to survive against a group of mobsters.

Jimmy Conlon (Liam Neeson) is a former hitman that once the right hand of a mob boss Shawn (Ed Harris), the only friend left in the world. However, when Jimmy killed Shawn's son Danny (Robert Boyd Holbrook) while trying to protect his estranged son Micheal (Joel Kinnaman), things between them went sour. All Jimmy needs to do is to protect his son from the hands of Shawn's associates and make Michael follow his lead for one night in order to survive.

Run All Night allows the viewers to experience a high-octane action thriller led by the always electrifying presence of Liam Neeson. Today his name is Jimmy Conlon but Neeson still had that trace of a Bryan Mills blood line that easily solves any problem because of his amazing particular set of skills. He can stop anyone from cops, mobsters and even an intimidating expert assassin in Grammy Award winner Common. The film's narrative already sounds familiar, but the execution is an entertaining popcorn piece of cinema.

This is already the third collaboration between Director Jaume Collet-Serra and Liam Neeson following two equally enjoyable flicks in Unknown and last year's Non-Stop. He already knows how to utilize Neeson's talent and maximize it through a brisk pace style. It never losses the momentum and once it's on the top of its game, it goes pretty straight forward to its big ambitions. It may fail at times and have some questionable turns, but it won't matter anyway at the long run.

Overall, Run All Night is made for Liam Neeson's legion of fans. They wouldn't be disappointed especially if they love to watch gritty thriller. It is a mindless action flick that basically will make you hold on to the edge of your seat. It still proves that Liam Neeson is one of the best when it comes to this genre despite his age.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 8.5 out of 10 stars

The movie doesn't offer up anything original, but for what it is (a small scale piece of vicious high concept), it handles itself with extreme precision and clarity.
