Jupiter Ascending: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

First, we would like to thank Warner Brothers Pictures PH for inviting us last Tuesday to the special screening of Jupiter Ascending at SM Megamall IMAX. We were excited to see this as the film supposed to open July last year when they decide to push the release early this year because basically the film isn't ready.

Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) wakes up early in the morning stating that she hates her life. She does the same routine, including cleaning toilets over and over again. However, her life changes when she was saved by Caine Wise (Channing Tatum) from aliens that tries to kill her. It turns out that she is the reincarnation of the matriarch of House Abrasax, whose three children are fighting over their inheritance.

When a film's release date is pushed back, it usually isn't a good sign but, still Jupiter Ascending promises a wonderful sci-fi epic extravaganza. Yes, it have a chunk of vital key elements in providing spectacular visual effects, but they quite overcooked it at some point that made the entire film tiresome. They just made it a little too much of everything and overstuffed it with things that is largely made by Wachowskis' mastery in technology.

The story is also a bit complicated where it tends to explain a lot of things were in the end you'll care less on what is really happening on the screen. The actors are appealing with Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum taking charge. Kunis is the saving grace where she looks stunning, especially while wearing those elegant dresses. While Tatum, on the other hand, definitely has the skills and charm to be the knight in shining armor who saves the day.

Overall, Jupiter Ascending is tolerable enough and still look marvelous on the screen. They may have overdone it and may have mess it up, but it is still an entertaining picture thanks to the screen presence of Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 5 out of 10 stars
