Annie (2015): Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

I know I already watched an Annie film on a cable channel, but I barely remember the story because I was still in grade school when I saw it. At first, it is difficult to understand why does this classic need another remake but while watching the film, it instantly got our attention right from the very beginning.

Thanks to Columbia Pictures PH for inviting us to the special screening of the film.

Annie (Quvenzhané Wallis) is a young foster kid living with other kids under the same roof with Ms. Hannigan (Cameron Diaz.) She is hoping that someday, her real parents who left her will come back so she can have a family. However, her life started to change when she is accidentally saved by New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx.) To boost Will's campaign, Annie is invited to stay with him for a while but the further he stays with Annie, the more he falls to take a good care with her new-found angel.

We are wondering why does the film have a low grade given by the critics. Yes,the film has its flaws, including some messy decisions that are really noticeable. However, the solid cast brings a lively take in reinventing the classic musical. Some of the tracks of the film's OST were appealing especially our personal favorite "I think I'm gonna like it here."

We loved the energy and dedication of each cast, especially the connection between the youngest Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis and Jamie Foxx. Their acting feels so natural and easily created a palpable father and daughter duo. We also liked the performance of Rose Byrne, who continues to blossom in every role she gets while Cameron Diaz seems to be out of sync most of the time.

Overall, Annie is a fun and entertaining film for the whole family to enjoy. It is a refreshing remake thanks to its likable characters.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 8.5 out of 10 stars
