Short Review: Exodus God and Kings

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Synopsis: Epic adventure Exodus: Gods and Kings is the story of one man's daring courage to take on the might of an empire. Using state of the art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses, setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues. -

After a disappointing "The Counselor" last year, Ridley Scott try to bounce back in a biblical epic film in Exodus: Gods and Kings. It's quite dull and a bit bloated despite satisfying performance from Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton. The film is quite unsure what road to take since it struggles to retell some of the details of Moses' story. However, there are some moments to enjoy especially the parting of the red sea and their interpretation of plagues. The scenery was quite impressive as they used top-notch CGI effects in recreating these plagues. But it's simply failed to justify the film as a whole as it misfires to bring a chunk of meat to the audience. Also the 3D spectacle premise doesn't offer anything interesting besides the plagues.

Overall, Exodus: Gods and Kings fails to deliver a solid film despite having a stellar cast.

Verdict: 4.5/10
