Past Tense: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

After the recent success of "Bride for Rent" Kim Chiu and Xiam Lim grace once again on the big screen  now teaming up with Ai Ai Delas Alas in "Past Tense" capping off Star Cinema's 20th year celebration.

Belle (Ai Ai de las Alas) wakes up from a 20 year comma caused by a tragic accident. Papa Time (Benjie Paras) suddenly shows up and gives her the chance to go back in time and change her fate by correcting her wrong decision before her accident. She returns to 2014, where she met her younger self (Kim Chiu.) Belle should prevent the day she met Carlos (Daniel Matsunaga) and tries to seek help with from his best friend Babs (Xian Lim.)

Past Tense is funny, charming yet a bit messy and irritating at some point. The film tries hard to weave the story and stay sharp but fail to be consistent with their material. It also suffers from cliches and even the cast hobbled trying to keep up with its premise. Kim Chiu still has her charms while Xian Lim also did his best with his chubby role. Ai Ai Delas Alas, on the other hand, gave up some few laughs at the start but is quite annoying and repetitive that hurts her in the long run.

Overall, Past Tense is disappointing in so many ways. Despite having a charming cast, the film misfires from repeating the success of the previous flick of the promising love team.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 4.5 out of 10 stars
