The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 1 : Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

First, we would like to thank RX 93.1 for the advance screening tickets we won on their twitter page. After  grueling months of waiting, finally the first half of the epic conclusion of The Hunger Games saga "Mocking Jay Part 1" landed into our screens ahead of it's US release. We expected that this film will leave us hanging one more time and there are no more "Hunger Games" involved this time. Director Francis Lawrence knows how split the film interestingly, but the part 1 serves more as a teaser into what will happen next explosive finale for this series.

After destroying the annual games, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence)  is now at District 13, which is under the leadership of a President Coin (Julianne Moore), advised by former Hunger Games Commissioner Plutarch Heavensbee. They both want Katniss to still be the face of the rebellion and spread propaganda videos among the other districts against the capitol. At first, Katniss is reluctant with the idea but after seeing District 12 shattered and wiped out, she decided to go on and be the Mocking Jay.

The film slowly builds momentum setting the tone smoothly riding on the strong performance of Jennifer Lawrence. She shows her emotions really well providing her mindset to play along and dig deep more in portraying Katniss. She is just simply remarkable and really fun to watch. Same along with the other cast that seems to embrace their characters more like Elizabeth Banks' Effie Trinket which losses her colorful look but still brings the best out of it. Same as Woody Harrelson without being sober and solid additions from the cast with the likes of Natalie Dormer and Julianne Moore joining the fray.

Mocking Jay part 1 is a bit bland compared to the first two films  if we base it on the thrill and the excitement it brings. It's more on details on how they can provide crisp in the starting pace of the revolution. They invested well and gradually delivers.

Overall The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 1 defies the odds once again and continues to add more on the table on adapting Suzanne Collins novel. It's a bit frustrating all of us to wait for another year to see the finale. However, we are indeed sure that they had a lot more under their sleeves to make an explosive final chapter for all the fans of this franchise.
