Called at the Highly Combative "DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES"

This year’s best reviewed and most anticipated action movie of the year where man and ape fight for survival and dominion over earth goes highly combative in “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.”

20th Century Fox has just released the latest photos of actors posing at the iconic Golden Gate Bridge at San Francisco – in attendance at the photo call are Dan Lemmon, Terry Notary, Andy Serkis, Matt Reeves, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman, Joe Letteri and Jason Clarke.

In “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” a growing nation of genetically evolved apes, led by Caesar, are threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier.  They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Available in 2D, 3D and 4DX format, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” will open in cinemas on July 9 nationwide in more than 200 screens in the Philippines from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Miracle in Cell No.7: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

I had a lot of friends in Facebook expressing their sentiments about the 2013 Korean Film "Miracle in Cell No.7. A lot of them said they shed a lot of tears, and some managed to consume a roll of tissue while watching it. The only way to find out why this film became a hit is to watch it immediately.

Yong-gu (Ryu Seung-Ryoong) is a mentally ill father who is falsely accused of killing and raping a young girl. He only has one relative in life, her one and only daughter Yesung (So Won Kal). When he is brought into prison things didn't go well as he is bullied by his cellmates and even the warden. However, as the days passed by, Yong-gu proves in his action that he is innocent and was only framed-up due to injustice circumstances.

Miracle in Cell No.7 is a certified tearjerker film. It easily captivates the heart with an uplifting story plus a delightful set of characters. It blends in a right amount of drama and slapstick comedy, which simply gets the sympathy of its audience. Apparently, it also shows the dark truth about some people on the higher ranks and some corrupt officials. In short, the film has some shades of reality in it with some people became a victim of unfortunate situations. With the film heading to its final minutes, you'll feel the agony and the impending tragedy that would break your heart into a million pieces.

The film's greatest asset is its talented cast. Ryu Seung-Ryoong sells his character efficiently. It's tough to play a mentally ill man, but he made it look so easy. We also loved the adorable So Won Kal as she performed really well. Other casts mostly Yong-gu's cellmates did their part, and all made their mark in film.

Overall, Miracle Cell No.7 is worth watching. It will definitely hit your lighter side and will make your heart melt. It's been a while since a film made me cry and if that is the film's objective, it absolutely succeeded.

And from this day on I don't want to see a freaking Sailor Moon Merchandise.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 10 out of 10 stars

The Giver Character Posters Featuring Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges and Taylor Swift

It's been a trend of Young Adult movie adaptation for the past few years where these films try to build a strong franchise. Some became a phenomenon while others failed and missed terribly. Here comes The Giver which features another dystopian sci-fi adaptation based on the 1993 novel of Lois Lowry.

Directed by Phillip Noyce (Salt, The Bone Collector), The Giver stars Jeff Bridges (Tron Legacy), Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada), Katie Holmes ( Batman Begins), Alexander Skarsgard (Battleship), Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent) and Taylor Swift (Valentines Day).

The haunting story of THE GIVER centers on Jonas (Brenton Thwaites), a young man who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Yet as he begins to spend time with The Giver (Jeff Bridges), who is the sole keeper of all the community's memories, Jonas quickly begins to discover the dark and deadly truths of his community's secret past. With this newfound power of knowledge, he realizes that the stakes are higher than imagined - a matter of life and death for himself and those he loves most. At extreme odds, Jonas knows that he must escape their world to protect them all - a challenge that no one has ever succeeded at before. (C) Weinstein

Edgar Ramirez, The Renegade Exorcist in “DELIVER US FROM EVIL”

He had already staked out a hugely versatile career, first in his native Venezuela and South America, then around the world. Now, Edgar Ramirez (“Wrath of the Titans,” “Zero Dark Thirty”) stars in Columbia Pictures' horror thriller “Deliver Us From Evil” as Joe Mendoza, an unorthodox priest who has battled his own inner demons. He enters into a partnership with New York police officer Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana) at first uncertain and then bonded by the recognition of the evil which they are facing.

At the very beginning,” Ramírez explains, “Mendoza was a mere presence, serving as a catalyst for Ralph Sarchie to solve the cases that he was investigating. I told Scott that I felt that we needed to find a journey for the character, that Mendoza will discover something about himself by getting to know Sarchie, that he shouldn’t only have religious and philosophical answers for Sarchie, but that there’s something that Sarchie brings to him as well. There’s certain access that the priest doesn’t have, and certain information that the police officer doesn’t have, so they kind of feed each other in order to solve these cases. In the beginning, they couldn’t care less about working together, but one has what the other one needs in order to solve the case.”

The relationship between Sarchie and Mendoza is as important, in many ways, than the relationship between Sarchie and his wife,” explains Eric Bana. “Mendoza is pretty much a Pied Piper for Sarchie, leading him down a path of trying to open his eyes and educate him. They absolutely become partners, and we were aided by a director who understood the importance of dialogue scenes as opposed to just non-stop action. It’s a very special relationship, and it was superbly cast with Edgar Ramírez. His preparation was absolutely fantastic, and Edgar is also really interesting and a lot of fun to hang around with. He brought real intensity but also gentleness to Mendoza, and he put a lot of thought into that character.”

To prepare for his role, Ramírez felt that “it was very important to understand what a priest thinks and feels when he’s not giving the sermon in church on Sundays. I was lucky enough to talk to priests who were open to share their everyday feelings and anxieties. I also researched exorcism, and the psychological and emotional consequences that come from performing such a rite. The interviews that I did and the information that I collected indicated that it’s very close to post-traumatic stress disorder, because when you face the devil, you are going to war.”

The subject matter of “Deliver Us From Evil” raised questions to be pondered not only by audiences, but also by the cast members. Says Edgar Ramírez, “In his previous films, Scott Derrickson gives you the chance to believe that whatever happens in the movie was either the creation of a sick mind, or the influence of an evil force or spirit. So depending on what your beliefs and background were, then you could pick one of the two. In this film, Scott offers us the same choice. I like the possibility of completing the information myself. I think there is a huge amount of evil out there, evil that we cannot understand or grasp. But at the same time, this journey of playing Mendoza also taught me that there’s a huge amount of compassion and solidarity, and people who want to do good for the world.”

In “Deliver Us From Evil,” Sergeant Ralph Sarchie of the NYPD has seen his share of darkness on the mean streets of the South Bronx. He has witnessed behavior on the outer edges of inhumanity, and it has begun to darken his soul, to the point of affecting his relationship with his wife and their young daughter.

But when the increasingly troubled Sarchie is summoned to investigate a bizarre incident, the events which follow will test the pragmatic Sarchie’s beliefs and understanding. He finds himself in a tenuous alliance with Joe Mendoza, a renegade priest whose own faith has been tested more than once, and who tries to convince a skeptical Sarchie that the increasingly horrifying occurrences are nothing less than an encounter with several cases of demonic possession.

Opening across the Philippines on July 02, “Deliver Us From Evil” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

JDI’s state-of-the art products, solutions exhibited at CONEX

Jardine Distribution, Inc.’s (JDI) very effective, safe, and conveniently applied products and solutions were showcased at the United Architects of the Philippines Convention (CONEX) held at the SMX Convention Center from April 10 to 12, 2014.

Solignum provides total protection against termites through an array of products that protect the interior and exterior wood portions of one's home, as well as wooden furniture. Solignum also has soil termiticides that, when mixed with the soil around the house, creates a barrier against underground termites. This total system was featured in the United Architects of the PHilippines(CONEX) event.

Sureseal waterproofing products were featured at the recently held United Architects of the PHilippines(CONEX)event. Sureseal products offer protection against leaks in GI roofing, pvc pipes, gutters, and downspouts. It has strong adhesion and bonding properties to seal cracks and has an elastic formulation to prevent cracking.

This exhibition features only the most state-of-the-art products and technologies related to home construction, protection, and maintenance. That Jardine products were included speaks well of how advanced our products and solutions are, and how effective they are in delivering their benefits to homeowners,” said Peachy Tiu, Marketing Manager of JDI.

Tiu also revealed that homeowners can now get useful advice about termites, waterproofing, and home pest control through a convenient hotline number. All that a homeowner has to do is contact the Engr. Lunas Hotline at (0920) 910-ANAY (2629). The hotline also provides information on the nearest hardware store or DIY shop where Jardine products and solutions are available.

Super Thoroughseal was exhibited at the United Architects of the PHilippines(CONEX)event to showcase its quality and reliability when it comes to waterproofing firewalls, basements, toilets and bath, concrete water tanks, and even fish ponds, swimming pools, and roofdecks. It is safe and not-toxic.

Solignum total termite protection from Jardine ensures that a house remains free of termites and terrible damage. Scale model was used to illustrate this at the United Architects of the PHilippines(CONEX) event.

Sureseal Elastomeric Sealant by Jardine is best used to seal up cracks in GI roofing, pvc pipes, gutters and downspouts now during the summer season. Doing so by the time the rains come is impractical and inconvenient. Superseal was among the Jardine products featured at the United Architects of the PHilippines(CONEX)event.

We are providing this hotline to give homeowners a ready answer to urgent needs in their household. A termite infestation endangers a family’s safety and the investment made in one’s home. Home pests like mice and mosquitoes, as well as roaches and rats, endanger a family’s health.

Waterproofing also protects both one’s house and the health of loved ones—this is because leaks may potentially damage parts of one’s home and let in moisture that encourage the growth of germs and mosquitoes,” explained Nancy DG Pereyras, JDI Product Manager.

The Jardine Distribution booth at the United Architects of the PHilippines(CONEX)eventshowcased the high-tech, world-class quality products for total termite protection, waterproofing, and home pest control (for ants, mice, rats, and roaches.) CONEX only features products that have proven quality, reliability, and effectiveness.

Move Over E.T., a new Cute Alien steals Hearts in Earth To Echo.

An inspiring science-fiction adventure, Earth to Echo captures all the mystery, excitement and wonder of an extraterrestrial occurrence in a small Nevada suburb. But at its heart, the movie is about friendship. Our three young heroes – Tuck, Munch and Alex – are a closely bonded trio of outcasts, whose time together is coming to an end. Their neighborhood is being destroyed by a highway construction project; forcing their families to move away. Only the promise of one last thrill together – a journey into the desert to search for the source of strange and mysterious messages that have appeared on their cell phones –can distract them from their impending move. The movie is really about this group of kids and how they have to say goodbye to each other,” says director Dave Green. “There’s something bittersweet about the fact they’re spending their last night together. But is goodbye really goodbye? In our movie, it’s not. It’s a beginning.”

Earth to Echo all began with the seed of an idea from producer Andrew Panay. Panay wanted to recapture the spirit of seminal family movies from the 1980s that he loved as a child – E.T., The Goonies, Stand By Me – movies that managed to conjure the wonder and heartbreak of early adolescence and infuse it with an intoxicating sense of adventure. If the story of E.T. were to happen today, he asked himself, how would it be told?

With video recording technology becoming increasingly accessible to all ages, especially kids, the movie’s concept seemed to fit perfectly into today’s world. “Kids today are doing a lot of their own filming and they're videotaping and Vine-ing. There are all these different social media outlets and ways of communicating which comes down to turning the camera around and shooting yourself and sending it off. It just makes sense,” says Panay. Today, kids want to share their experiences with people. Fortunately enough, this group of friends brings viewers into their story with the click of the “Record” button. With its roots in the found footage genre, Earth to Echo is the next step in storytelling.

Instead of approaching seasoned feature directors to help develop the project, Panay decided to go in another direction. The heart of the movie lies in the way the characters piece together the story themselves using their own cameras, editing, and insight. This was exactly what Panay wanted from a director. “I wanted to find a young filmmaker from the generation that sits and edits their films themselves,” says Panay.

He found what he was looking for in Dave Green, an enterprising filmmaker with a unique vision and strong résumé. Aside from having been a producer’s assistant on the set of the Spiderman trilogy, films acclaimed for their stunning visual effects, Dave also had a series of polished short films and music videos under his belt. When Panay watched one of Green’s shorts, he was immediately convinced. “It was practically a trailer for Earth to Echo,” he says. “After seeing that, I had no doubts at all.”

Green met with Panay to discuss his idea and the two immediately hit it off, saying that “[Panay]’s idea just sparked my excitement.”

According to Green, Panay’s idea was already in the family of concepts Green had been discussing with his writing partner, Henry Gayden; but Gayden wasn’t convinced. “At first, I didn’t know what to do,” Gayden admits. “It was too broad a container. But then I got this idea and started writing and by two in the morning, I had a rough story.” Gayden called up Green the next morning and said he had landed on something interesting.

As the next step, Green shot a one-minute clip to help sell the fun, the mystery, and the suspense of what Earth to Echo would ultimately become. When Panay saw it, he was immediately convinced. “It was practically a trailer for Earth to Echo,” he says. “After seeing that, I had no doubts at all.

From the beginning, Green wanted to approach things differently with Earth to Echo. In this case, the material isn’t simply raw footage, it’s a finished video created by Tuck (played by Brian ‘Astro’ Bradley), an avid, DIY filmmaker who regularly posts his videos on YouTube. “We wanted to lean into the idea that Tuck not only shot the whole thing, he’s also cut the whole thing, and he’s put music to it when he feels like it’s necessary, and he’s put titles in there, and he can pause the movie, and he can interject,” says Green.

If an extraterrestrial occurrence actually happened today, almost anyone would be able to capture it with the amount of video recording technology at people’s fingertips. Green also found a compelling advantage to creating a story that hewed solely to his main characters’ point of view, an attribute of many of his favorite movies from the likes of Spielberg and Hitchcock. “You build suspense out of what the characters don’t see and don’t know,” he explains. “And that’s the most exciting part. It’s fun to parse out information, just one seed at a time.”

Earth To Echo’ is released and distributed by CAPTIVE CINEMA.
