New Life Health and Wellness Center

Healing the total person
through oriental medicine

CHRONIC ILLNESSES like diabetes and back pain, as well as life-threatening diseases like cancer still pose difficult challenges for Western medical science. The usual treatments recommended by Western medicine for such diseases—including the use of drugs and surgery--can be effective but can also be expensive and are not without risk.

Not all cancer patients, for example, can tolerate long-term chemotherapy. Other patients are too weak to undergo surgery. In these instances, such patients would seek alternative medicine for treatment.

Dr. Andrew Kim discusses his findings regarding a patient's illness at his
New Life Health and Wellness Center.

"Food is medicine" says Dr. Andrew Kim, explaining that raw foods and foods
in their natural state can repair the body and strengthen it. This is why
he prescribes natural, "living" food supplements to his patients. Diet is
part of the wellness lifestyle that he teaches.

Dr. Kim explains his diagnosis to his patient, Liza, and assures her that
she would not need to undergo surgery for her gallstones because undergoing
alternative therapies would be able to cure her.

However, according to Dr. Andrew Kim, who is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, non-Western modes of medical treatments are not only for those who have given up on, or cannot be helped, by Western medicine. He said that it can be a first option for treatment.

A lot of people think that they should only seek an Oriental medicine doctor only after Western medicine has failed to help them. Oriental medicine has been practiced for more than 5,000 years and a patient can definitely go to an Oriental medicine doctor as a first choice,” said Dr. Kim, who has been treating many cancer patients at his clinic, as well as other patients with chronic diseases.

Patients who have been advised to undergo surgery by Western-trained doctors—but who would rather not go through it—also go to Dr. Kim for alternative, non-surgical treatments.

Dr. Kim’s patients at his clinic, “The New Life Health and Wellness Center”, attest to the effectiveness of the treatments that he gives them—a bulletin board at his clinic is filled with notes of gratitude from patients who have been helped by him.

Enzyme Food/Enzyme Detox. This enzyme supplement helps remove toxins from
the blood and strengthens the immune system, etc. It also improves
digestion and helps those on a slimming diet.

One of Dr. Kim’s patients, Liza Cahilig, was advised by another doctor to get surgery after she was diagnosed with gallstones. Liza Cahilig, however, did not want to have surgery and so she went to Dr. Kim for a second opinion.

Dr. Kim gave me a checkup and said that I don’t need surgery. The gallstones are not serious enough to make surgery necessary. He said that there are other treatments that will remove the symptoms,” she said.

Oxygen Therapy. This p revents severe respiratory distress, and chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, including chronic bronchitis,
emphysema, and chronic asthma. It also helps treat Acute Myocardial
Infarction.

Treating causes and symptoms

According to Dr. Kim, both Western and Oriental medicine are not competitors—rather, they are systems of therapy that should be available to all patients, depending on their needs. He said that Western medicine is very effective in curing the symptoms and physical disorders resulting from a disease.

However, he said, Oriental medicine offers another therapeutic and curative aspect that Western medicine does not have.

Bio-blood Analysis. A microscopic examination of blood cells to determine
amounts of  toxins in the blood, cholesterol, crystals, uric acid and the
level of blood-stickiness.

Western medicine is very good. For example, in a cancer patient, Western medicine can take out cancerous tumors. It can kill cancer cells. And yet, as we know, cancer can come back. Why is this? That’s because Western medicine is very good at curing symptoms of a disease but it does not address the cause of the disease.

If you cure the symptoms but the cause of the disease is still there, the sickness will come back. When you take away the cause of the disease, the disease goes away. It does not come back anymore. Oriental medicine addresses what is causing the disease to happen,” he said.

Body Composition Analyzer. This assesses the body fat rate (especially in
the abdomen) as well as c arbohydrate rate; water ratio; Body Mass Index
(BMI); and Kilo-Calories.

Holistic approach

According to Dr. Kim, he practices a holistic approach in diagnosing and treating patients. He said that diseases occur when there is an imbalance in the body’s natural processes. This imbalance could be caused by pollution, toxins, lack of exercise, a bad diet, and even stress.

Our body already knows how to heal itself. We only have to help it by removing whatever is blocking its harmony and balance. That’s why our approach is holistic. Our treatments are designed for total wellness: wellness of mind, body and spirit,” he said.

In Liza’s case, Dr. Kim says that she needs to switch to a healthier diet and to avoid stress as these are factors that are causing the painful symptoms of her gallstones. He said that after Liza receives his treatments, she will no longer need to have her gallstones nor her gall bladder removed.

Dr. Kim's patient, Liza, undergoes Meridian Analysis, which shows which
organs of her body are strong and which are weak. This data forms part of
the basis for her treatment.

The gallstones are not serious enough to require surgery. When I examined Liza’s blood, I found that she has ‘sticky blood’. This means that her blood cells are not circulating properly and are not bringing as much oxygen as her organs need. She also has intestinal fats but these are not so bad; they can still be removed easily. Also she is under a lot of stress,” he said.

The holistic approach to Liza’s gallstones problem would therefore include changing her diet, taking herbal medicines and supplements, and teaching her how to manage stress. She also has the option to have acupuncture or electroacupuncture, where a mild electric charge is applied to the acupuncture points.

Chiropractic treatment  corrects vertebral subluxation; decreases stiffness
and muscular spasms; it slows or stops spinal degeneration and improves
overall health.

Dr. Kim also said that meditation is also part of his holistic treatments. This is because, according to him, illnesses have a “psychogenic” cause. This means that the illnesses of the body are also rooted in a patient’s psychological state, including his or her emotions and thoughts. If these disordered emotions and thoughts are balanced and harmonized, then the physical symptoms of illness are also treated.

Other treatments at his clinic include Oxygen Therapy; Chelation Therapy; Vitamin C Megadose Therapy; Brain Wave Therapy; Acupuncture and Ventosa; Chiropractic Treatment; Aromatherapy; Ion Detoxification; Thermotherapy; Rejuvenating Exercises; and Herbal Medication with Red Ginseng Products.

Thermotherapy i ncreases blood circulation and extensibility of collagen
tissues. It reduces pain, inflammation, edema, and treats infection and
cancer.

Meridian Analyzer is a  head to toe assessment of the energy level of the
internal organs. It determines which organs is strong and which are weak.

Raw food supplements

Dr. Kim also pointed out that the right foods, by themselves, act as medicine for the body.

Food is not just fuel for the body to give it energy. Foods can heal. They are a natural medicine for the body. By taking the right foods, we can be cured of a lot of diseases. The best food should be raw, so that we are able to absorb all their nutrients. Also, a lot of us are addicted to sweet foods. But the natural foods are not sweet.

The most medicinal raw foods, in fact, can be bitter. So we say that ‘bitter is better’ for you. In our clinic, we prescribe raw food supplements, including raw enzyme supplements to our patients. These raw foods and raw enzyme supplements are powerful sources of nutrition and healing,” said Dr. Kim.

ICT (Interferential Current Therapy)  uses a mid-frequency electrical
signal to treat muscular spasms and strains. The current produces a
massaging effect and stimulates the secretion of endorphins, the body's
natural pain relievers.

The herbal, raw foods, and raw enzyme supplements prescribed by Dr. Kim come in freeze dried form. In this form, he said, these foods retain all their nutrients and can be considered “living” foods. They are part of the nutritional therapy that Dr. Kim uses to treat patients. They can also be meal replacements—patients who wish to slim down can take them in place of actual meals, and are packed with nutrients without excess calories.

Our approach in our clinic is total wellness. We are here to restore the total person--his body, his mind and his spirit. When all these are in harmony, that’s the only time when we can say that a person is truly in good health,” said Dr. Kim.

DVD Review: Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009)

Hachi: A Dog's Tale
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Based on a true story, many told us that you need a lot of tissue paper when you watch Hachiko. Finally we decided to watch it yesterday, we were really focused on the film and expecting to shed some tears.

Professor Parker Wilson (Richard Gere) finds an abandoned dog in a train station and takes it home with an intention of returning it to it's owner. As the days passed nobody claimed where he decided to keep it and name it Hachi.

There are many films that shows that dog's are really man's best friend. Some of the few titles are Marley and Me and I am Legend but Hachiko really shows the love and devotion he has for his master. It's really a heartwarming film a good movie for animal lovers. Add the fact that it's based in a true story that would make a grown man cry. People should stop animal cruelty and we hope that these people can spend some time to watch this. We don't want to spoil it for others so we gonna end this review here.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 8.5 out of 10 stars

Casts: Richard Gere, Joan Allen, Sarah Roemer

DVD Review: Ramona and Beezus (2010)

Ramona and Beezus
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Ramona and Beezus is a film adaptation of the book Ramona Forever. It's very rare to find this kind of family oriented films that will keep you entertained from start to finish.

Ramona Quimby (Joey King) is a young girl filled with vivid imaginations which she uses on her creativity but often leads to disastrous situations. Even with her jolly personality she always feels that she's left out so she trying to help with her own ways to solve the problems around her. Her older sister Beezus (Selena Gomez) is growing up, falling for her high school sweetheart and always been the favorite of their parents. While her father lost his job and their parents are arguing everyday which is tearing them apart.

This is a charming movie about a young misunderstood kid played by Joey King whose been very effective in showing her cuteness and charming personality. She delivers her role in finesse which can easily connect to the audiences. While Selena Gomez was also great in playing Beezus who has been struggling about her young love. The two girls were surrounded with awesome supporting cast including Josh Duhamel, Ginnefer Goodwin and John Corbett.

Overall Ramona and Beezus si a dramedy movie filled with valuable lessons to be learned. The humor is perfect and it's a good movie for a family bonding weekend just like we did yesterday. We recommend this film even it's has no CGI effects and no heart popping scenes, having a plain and simple storyline that will surely touch your hearts.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 9 out of 10 stars

The Dark Knight Rises: Movie Review

The Dark Knight Rises
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

It's been a week before we could see The Dark Knight Rises in the big screen. Some says that this is the best movie released this year and it's a sin if your gonna miss this because it is the epic conclusion for this franchise.

Eight years have passed and Gotham city is still blaming the death of Harvey Dent to Batman. With Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) still mourning from the death of Rachel Dawes and already given up on being Batman. But things have changed in the arrival of Bane (Tom Hardy), a masked mercenary together with his own army  and started to threaten the city.  Now it's up to Bruce Wayne to move on and rescue Gotham and revive the Dark Knight.

We are not a big fan of Batman and never liked any of his movies except for the Dark Knight mainly because of portrayal of Heath Ledger as the Joker. As for TDKR it's a good superhero movie but stands out as a serious one. Though the character in the bat suit with amazing gadgets were seen in a little amount of time and his fight scenes were trimmed down. We hate to see batman weakened by time barely unable to fight Bane struggled most of the time. Yes this is a great film but with two hours of talkies it gets a little boring at first and leaves a 45 minutes of quality entertainment.

The fight scenes were good but not that impressive. We were just wondering on who would win between Batman and Bane in a declamation contest by using their speaker voices. The story was deep merely focusing on the struggle of the Batman making audience feel that heroes are also vulnerable. Christian Bale was good in providing his emotions well and Tom Hardy was astonishing as Bane because it's hard to recognize if it was really him under that mask. His strong character was felt all throughout even overpowering Batman. Anne Hathaway was really gorgeous having a great chemistry with Bale. Other casts made their important contributions that really made their mark.

Overall TDKR would just end a chapter in this series. We would not be be surprised to see another Batman movie on the coming years based on what we saw in the ending. An interesting twist in the end and it's a must watch for Batman fans.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 8.5 out of 10 stars

Cast: Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman
