The Amazing Spider-Man: Movie Review

The Amazing Spider-Man
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

As a Spider-Man fan a lot of questions will linger in your mind. Why did they reboot the franchise or where is Tobey Maguire? After seeing this film, all the questions were answered, same story but they made it fresh and more exciting. Thanks to Zed and AXN Asia I was able to attend two screenings in one night. I watched it in 2D and in 3D cool right?

Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) was abandoned by his parents when he was still a child, leaving him to his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). With a lot of questions about his life, his father old briefcase leaded him to the Oscorp. There he met his father former colleague, one handed Dr. Curtis Connors (Rhys Ifans). While he was in Oscorp he was accidentally bitten by a radioactive spider. Soon he discovers that he has a tremendous strength and unique ability as a spider. When Dr. Connors plan backfired in having his arm back he is turned into a Lizard and starts threatening the city. Now it's in Peter Parker"s hands to save the people and become a hero.

The Amazing Spider-man had some slight deviation from the original version but totally paid off. A fresh new look of the film was absolutely incredible. They developed the story and they made it cleverly piercing it with note of realism but still sticking with it's comic value. I'm sure you'll miss Tobey Maguire at first but making you forget him as the movie goes along. Andrew Garfield did well as a replacement, embracing the character well as he fits very well in his role. He shows his emotions well while having that comical spidey attitude. Emma Stone also did well in having a lovely chemistry with Andrew Garfield though we missed the upside down kiss scene.

The effects was outstanding specially when you watch it on 3D. I think it would be the best watching it in an IMAX theater. No doubt that Spider-Man will invite a lot of audiences but Director Marc Webb made some brilliant touches that will attract more viewers and love the new franchise even more. The casting was perfect, the story was smartly made so there's no way you'll pass this.

Overall a reboot is not necessarily needed for this film but if the results is great as this, well why not? Don't leave your seats and wait for the end of the credits hinting for a sequel in the near future. Andrew Garfield rocks don't dare miss it.

Mayhem at the launch of the newest Axe fragrances

Mayhem at the launch of the newest Axe fragrances

Axe, the #1 male fragrance brand in the world, made the wildest fantasies of one hundred very lucky guys come true at the launch of its newest fragrance – Axe Anarchy. The event – called The Axe Anarchy Raid – lets loose the sexiest women in the country on a gang of helpless, handcuffed guys in a steamy game of tag. And as if drop-dead gorgeous female celebrities and models weren’t enough, Axe made the game even more outrageous by offering a two million-peso reward to the winning pair. Crazy? You bet.

Regine Angeles and Jinri Park in a sea of girls

This is the first and maybe the only time that Axe is coming out with matching his and hers fragrances,” says Axe brand manager Raf Hechanova. “So we thought we would launch Axe Anarchy with the wildest, most insane idea we could think of.”

The Axe Anarchy Raid gets one hundred of the hottest girls in the country – the likes of Sam Pinto, Ellen Adarna, Iwa Moto, Jacq Yu, Regine Angeles, Nina Jose, Megan Young, Nadine Samonte, Sarah Lahbati, and many more – to search for a their match among one hundred lucky guys. The prize? A cool two million pesos for the first pair to rendezvous – one million for the cop and another million for her robber. Sounds easy? Well, there’s a catch. The girls had to look under the guys’ shirts and do a bit of frisking to find their match.

Robber is traumatized. There’s just too many girls in the game.

Ayaw papigil: DJ Tony getting tackled by a warden.

We pretty much went overboard with this one,” adds Axe brand manager Gem Laforteza. “Things just kinda’ got out of hand.”

The game started with a loud police siren that released the Robbers (the guys) from their holding area. It looked more like a jail break than a robbery. One hundred guys – among them the Boys Night Out, RX 93.1 DJ Gino Quillamor, GMA Leading Man Rocco Nacino, and Victor Basa – were literally tripping over each other in a mad rush to get to the other side of the field where the girls were.

Police brutality: fourteen girls vs. one guy.

Getting tackled: More fun in the Philippines.
But before the Robbers could get to the Cops, they had to squeeze through 20 beauty-queen-type girls (called “Wardens”) and 20 big bouncer-type guys (called “Marshalls”). These beauties and beasts were tasked to keep the guys and the girls away from one another by arresting the guys and putting them back in jail. The game of tag quickly turns into patintero as the gorgeous Wardens tried to tackle guys who were literally leaping away to avoid getting caught. Meanwhile the burly Marshalls were lifting guys off their feet to deliver them back to their holding areas. Utter chaos.

I totally forgot that the bouncers could put us under arrest,” narrates The Morning Rush DJ Gino Quillamor. “I was suddenly reminded when one of them lifted me up by the shoulders.”

Ramon Bautista gets to make co-host Marc Nelson to feel his 6-pack abs

As the Robbers got through to the other side, the Cops were released from their holding area and a different kind of chaos began. Imagine playing as a Robber: You’d just be standing there letting the girls almost rip your shirt off for a glimpse of the code underneath.

First there would only be two or three of them,” recounts one of the guys. “But then more would come. And before you know it, six or eight pairs of hands are on you. All you could do was look at their faces. Everyone was having fun.”

Ashley Rivera and Eric Losloso bring home the millions.

In the end, two people – internet superstar Ashley Rivera (A.K.A. “Petra Mahalimuyak”) and journalist Eric Losloso – took home the millions. But everyone went home with an experience they would never forget.

Mid-Year Countdown Rank 20-11 ( 2012's Best Movies ) January to June

Mid-Year Countdown Rank 20-11 ( 2012's Best Movies )
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

It's the time of the year where we countdown some of the best movies we seen this past six months. This list is only our opinion. We would post the Top 10 movies on July 3.

20. Special Forces

Special Forces opens up our list, A solid action adventure film that shows the intensity between the fight of six brave soldiers against hundred terrorists. Feel the tension and drama including a nice performance from Diane Kruger.

19. The Grey

After battling tons of terrorist in Taken which is having a sequel on October, Liam Neeson fights for survival against wolves. And did you know that the snow storm scenes in the film was real and not CGI effects. The temperature were as low as -40°.

18. Lockout

Lockout is one of the silliest yet one of the most entertaining film in the list. Guy Pearce humor and a unique chemistry with Maggie Grace the film never had a dull moment as we completely enjoyed it. One brave commando versus hundreds of psycho inmates equals riot.

17. Journey 2 the Mysterious Island

We hated Journey to the center of the earth but when The Rock amd Vanessa Hudgens were included in the cast there no doubt that the sequel will hit hard. With dazzling visuals and amazing use of CGI effects, Journey 2 the Mysterious Island landed in #17.

16. Cabin in The Woods

The Cabin in the woods was shelved for a long time but the long wait was really worth-it. A one of a kind horror film that's really twisted. The cuts in this film brought it down on our list but nevertheless this movie was epic.

15. Unofficially Yours

The only local film that made into our list. Unofficially Yours is the local version of Friends with Benefits. The chemistry between John Llyod Cruz and Angel Locsin never gets old.

14. The Vow

The only romantic themed movie that entered our list. The Vow is inspired by true events in which explains that true love never dies. The unlikely pairing between Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams sells well to the viewers.

13. Mirror Mirror

Two Snow White film adaptation reels in this year but for us Mirror Mirror pulls a much greater advantage from the two movies. The funny slapstick version was really interesting, entertaining and keeps up the family oriented theme of our beloved fairy tale.

12. Underworld: Awakening

The 4th installment in this series jam packed with action scenes from start to finish. Though the movie was short compared to it's previous films but in the end there's no doubt that there would be a 5th movie.

11. Man on a Ledge

Finishing off our countdown is Man on a Ledge. A great thriller even it has a boring poster and trailer. Sam Woringthon provided the excitement with a man trying to clear his name combining it with a brilliant plan.
That's the bottom half of our list we will reveal the Top 10 next week. Do you have a guess what is it?

DVD Review: Big Miracle

Big Miracle
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

We thought that this movie will have it's theatrical release last May 1 but it was pushed back to July 4. So were surprised to see it released straight to DVD when we visited Video City last night.

Inspired by the true story happened in 1988 where a family of grey whales were trapped into ice of the arctic circle. With the help of Adam (John Krasinski), a small town news reporter and his ex-girlfriend Rachel (Drew Barrymore), a green peace volunteer works together to save the endangered mammals while the whole globe witness this one of a kind drama.

Big Miracle is a great inspirational movie that really shows a lot of hope and unity in people making one common goal. They made the film so real by using some actual clips and TV news casts of the event happened 24 years ago. The casts was also impressive making the drama felt in every way you can imagine. This kind of films are really pleasant to watch but really don't get too much audience share that usually made  movie distributors pull it early or not show it at all in the cinemas.

Aside from the story two of the most prettiest Hollywood girls are present in this film. Drew Barrymore is still likable while Kristen Bell is such a sweetheart and has a lot of charms. Overall Big Miracle should have given that chance to be seen in the big screen. We recommend it as it will surely touch your hearts.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 8.5 out of 10 stars

Casts: John Krasinski, Drew Barrymore, Kristen Bell

Directed By: Ken Kwapis

Let's All Come Bag to School with BUM

Let's All Come Bag to School with BUM

Standing out at school doesn’t mean you have to constantly challenge the rules and break your school’s dress code.

So before you walk down the crowded hallway again, make sure you’re clad in cool pieces and armed with the right accessories that would reflect your no-nonsense rebel attitude.

Taking off from its successful “Teevolution” campaign, which called forth an outpour of vibrant colors, bold prints, and graphic ethnic patterns, innovative brand BUM helps the youngsters today stand out by upping their style quotient and street cred before the school year starts.

Veering away from the normal and the ordinary design concepts of most local clothing labels, BUM comes up with stylish yet functional bags that carry the brand’s style philosophy: the Modern Goth Look with a touch of Glam Rock (think studded pieces, motorcycle jackets, tapered pants, oversized shirts, and the like).

This utilitarian concept was made casual by BUM, turning motorcycle jackets into cropped ones, and with notched collar jackets for boys. They can also go for the “casual cool” look with chino cuffed pants that allow them to swing from schoolwork to play without breaking a sweat.

Girls, who love pieces that can be mixed and matched with their favorite tops and bottoms, will be delighted to know that BUM has whipped up something new for them, as well. BUM introduces the rayon fabric for girls and exciting new designs such as 2-in-1 tops, casual blazers, and blouses with built-in mini designed to look like tunics.

Skinny jeans and jeggings have also found their way into BUM’s new collection. Stylish yet comfortable, these pants can flatter any shape and can be worn with a baggy top, a comfy cardigan, or a fitted jacket to create proportion. Girls with short legs can pair these with heels (stilettos or knee-high boots), while long-legged girls can opt for comfy flats.

Making a statement, however, is not limited to a person’s wardrobe. BUM has also come up with trendy bags that can complete one’s  getup.

Splashed with catchy, statement patterns, the BUM Tote bag for girls/teens, for instance, are printed with provocative messages that speak volumes about the wearer’s personality or mood for the day.

Made of printed canvas mixed with poly-fine fiber, the BUM Reversible Bag is designed with eye-catching patterns and minimal accent details. Since both sides (inner and outer) have designs, it’s like having two bags in one!

Going back to school has never been this cool and fashionable.

BUM is available in leading department stores nationwide. For more information, visit or like them on Facebook at
