DVD Review: Seeking Justice

DVD Review: Seeking Justice
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Will Gerard is a high school English teacher who had a normal life with her beautiful wife Laura (January Jones). But his life became complicated when his wife was raped and assaulted. He made a deal with a sinister underground organization that's into dealing vigilante justice. Will got his revenge but he needs to pay a price by returning a big favor for the organization.

Actually this is pretty decent action thriller with full of twist and mystery in to the story. With Cage character gets into a lot of complicated scenarios and gets into a lot of chases with this underground syndicate. The film stays in a high pace handling out a puzzling outcome towards the end. We may say that this movie was way better than the past two films of Cage we watched ( Trespass & Ghost Rider: The Spirit of Vengeance) surprisingly this movie did not had a theatrical release. With Guy Pearce and January Jones providing a good support with Nicolas Cage, Seeking Justice is really a good action film that can satisfy your movie night at home.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 7 out of 10 stars

Casts: Nicolas Cage, Guy Pearce, January Jones and Harold Perrineau

Avida Towers Cebu: sold out in just 18 months

In less than two years, all of 1,045 units of Avida Towers Cebu are now sold out.
Avida Towers Cebu: sold out in just 18 months
CEBU PROVES ITSELF TO BE A ROBUST real estate market for Avida, as shown by buyers’ response to Avida Towers Cebu. Launched only in June 2010, units have been selling at a brisk pace—and now, in less than two years, all of 1,045 units of Avida Towers Cebu are now sold out.
More than anything, we see the sell out of Avida Towers Cebu as a testament to the trust and confidence of Cebuanos in the Ayala brand. Ayala Land is an established developer in Cebu and with Avida being part of the Ayala Group, Cebuanos rightly believe that owning an Avida Towers Cebu unit is a sound investment. Beyond the brand strength, we also see that the location, features and amenities offered by Avida Towers Cebu were well appreciated by our buyers. We are glad that our commitment to creating quality homes at affordable prices, which translated to Avida Towers Cebu has been received well and appreciated by the discerning Cebuano market who is keen on getting their money’s worth for every purchase,” said Mr. Apollo Tanco, Project Strategic Management Head of Avida Land for VISMIN.
Strategically located in Cebu’s most vibrant business and lifestyle hub that is Cebu I.T. Park, Avida Towers Cebu is designed and built with an integrated “Home, Office and Play Lifestyle” concept. It’s the perfect dream home for families that wish to have a complete quality living experience amidst the excitement of urban, cosmopolitan Cebu—while also enjoying features and amenities for recreation and relaxation, combined with the privacy of one’s exclusive abode.

Avida Towers Cebu is designed and built with an integrated “Home, Office and Play Lifestyle” concept.
  5 Must Haves
Following the standard for all Avida condominium developments, Avida Towers Cebu has the “5 Must Haves” that create the ideal quality living experience for its residents. All units are fitted with large windows that allow fresh air to circulate freely and lets in maximum natural illumination. This is good for the occupants’ health, and also creates a light and optimistic atmosphere inside the unit.
Both towers also have fewer units per floor to prevent crowding and ensure privacy. The towers’ amenities are designed for practicality and for minimal maintenance cost—something that will greatly benefit homeowners in the long-run. There is also emergency power available inside each unit—not just in the common areas—so that the residents’ living convenience and security are ensured even during brownouts.
Finally, all these features and amenities are availed of through easy and flexible payment terms. All these five condo “Must Haves” add up to an ideal living experience that only Avida provides.
Like all Avida condominium developments, Avida Towers Cebu has the “5 Must Haves.”
  Long-term best value
According to Tanco, the sellout of Avida Towers Cebu is also an indication of the growing sophistication of Cebu’s real estate market.
Buyers in Cebu now have a deeper understanding and appreciation for investing in condominium development in a central, urban area. Condo living has become a viable option as it allows residents to have easy access to places that matter. In addition, they see the affordability, quality and practicality of such investments as a source of benefit in the long term,” he said.
Given the overwhelming positive response from Cebuanos, Avida discloses that the company is exploring more developments in the city.
Tanco also pointed out that the Cebu market is a perfect fit for Avida, as it is comprised of the “the practical rich,” which she explains as those who see Avida’s thrust of providing “affordable” as something that would result in the best return and value for money in the long run.
Avida Towers Cebu is a joint venture project of Avida and Asian I Office Properties. After its launch in June 2010, it nearly sold out the 518 units of the first tower in a mere three months. This prompted the early launch of the 527-unit second tower in October of the same year. The two towers have more than a thousand units with prices ranging from P1.7M to P4.2M. Studio, 1-Bedroom and 2-Bedroom units were offered with monthly amortization starting at P13, 600.
Avida Land Corp. is the affordable property developer of Ayala Land, Inc. True to its brand promise of providing quality homes at affordable prices for the successful Filipino middle class, in the past 21 years, Avida Land has successfully developed 40 house and lot, and condominium projects in 18 different locations around the Philippines. Asian I Office Properties (AIO) is a subsidiary of Cebu Property Ventures and Development Corporation, which owns and manages Asiatown I.T. Park.
Building on the heritage of superb quality from the country’s biggest and most trusted developer that is Ayala Land, Avida Towers Cebu, which is envisioned to be the best in its class, will be managed and maintained by Ayala Property Management Corporation.
All Avida Towers are planned and built with the five condo must-haves in mind: free-flowing air and sunlight, fewer units per floor, sensible amenities, emergency power even inside your unit, and easy payment terms. With quality that is sure to last, An Avida home is a must-have. For more info on Avida Towers Cebu, please call 032-5142322/ (02) 848-5200 or visit

Arnee Hidalgo stages Thursday shows
in Thunderbird Resort this March

THURSDAY nights at Thunderbird Resort in Taytay, Rizal are going to be more entertaining and enchanting with performances by one of the most distinct and talented Filipino singers Arnee Hidalgo this coming March.

Arnee, who is Thunderbird’s artist of the month for March, is set to have a series of shows at the luxury hotel and resort every Thursday, starting March 1. The sultry singer has been known for her soulful, powerful voice and her almost impeccable performances that captivate her audience through the years.

Musical journey
Arnee started her career as a part of the singing groups Penoy and 14K—both under the tutelage of “Maestro” Ryan Cayabyab. She was also a member of the female teenage trio The Vibe in the 90s.

Her career as a solo artist skyrocketed when her smashing hit “Cold Summer Nights” was released in 2003. Her rendition of the Francis Magalona original became very popular in the local music industry that it was hailed by radio stations as Song of the Year.

She released an album titled “You Got It All” that carried her versions of the popular songs “You Got It All”, “Miss You Like Crazy”, “Inside That I Cried”, and “What Might Have Been”, among others.

  OPM advocate

A staunch advocate of Original Pinoy Music (OPM), Arnee is one of the local artists who support “Tunog Natin”, a campaign that aims to revive the Filipinos’ interest for local artists and their records.

Together with rock band Tanya Markova, she recorded a fun, feel-good rendition of “Pumapatak Ang Ulan” for the TUNOG NATIN: Songs from Home Compilation Album.

Arnee is likewise a part of Mang Inasal's “Mang Aawit Music Advocacy Program” that gives Filipino singers and songwriters opportunities and resources to continue creating and performing new and original songs.

As one of the program’s music grantees, she recorded the song “Bakit Ba?” and shot a music video, featuring model-actor Victor Aliwalas. The music videos for the music advocacy program are being played in more than 400 Mang Inasal branches nationwide.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close: Movie Review

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is another inspirational movie that tackles about a child dealing with his emotions after the loss of his father in the 9/11 attack. It is also one of the Best Picture Oscar Nominee this year that would probably inspire other people or disappoint them. Thanks to the Sam and Gibb Show for the special advance screening tickets we won on their show.

Oskar (Thomas Horn) is a young boy who believes that his father left him a message hidden in the city, before he died in the 9/11 attack. After he found a mysterious key in his father's closet he started to search for people who's last name is Black and ask them some questions if they knew his father. Beyond that search he met a lot of people and learned a greater understanding about the world around him.

The film was too long and has a slow paced storyline. Though Thomas Horn provided a good grip in his character making it more convincing and he really performed well. The story was more on connecting the dots that really doesn't fit or make sense. Finding the hole for the key to fit in almost over an hour of the film ending up that the key was not really meant for him. The drama was not that strong as it didn't touched my emotions and just made me yawn a lot of times. The title of this movie should be Mission Impossible as Oskar's task is more difficult than Ethan Hunt.

Overall a lot of mixed reactions and reviews from this film. Some liked it and some did not well I guess you should see it for yourself and make a verdict on your own. For me it's dull, for others it's sentimental now it's up to you to decide once you give it a try.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 4 out of 10 stars

Cast: Thomas Horn, Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and Max Von Sydow

DVD Review: Bunraku

DVD Review: Bunraku
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Couple of months back I saw the trailer of Bunkaru at yahoo movies getting me excited to watch it in the big screen, but last week when I entered the video store I was surprised to see that it already came out on a DVD release.

A mysterious drifter (Josh Hartnett) and a Japanese warrior, Yoshi (Gackt) both arrived in a town that has been terrorized by extreme criminals. Both men has their own mission and guided by the wise bartender (Woody Harrelson). Both of them agreed to team up and stop the evil ways of the "Wood Cutter" (Ron Perlman) which is the root of their problems.

With a variety of good actors and interesting characters Bunraku is a cool movie to watch. Though the setting felt like a small stage filled with bright lights the film was full of non stop action scenes. Include the mission, facing ten deadly assassins before facing the boss, it felt like your playing a video game. I can compare it with Scott Pilgrim Vs the world but that movie was a little more better.

The story was not that deep focusing more on revenge and violence but gave a good diversion all throughout. Overall Bunraku is an exciting film to watch specially if you are a big fan of sword and fist fights. It is a good team up between a Samurai and a strange cowboy.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 7 out of 10 stars

Casts: Josh Hartnett, Woody Harrelson, Ron Perlman, Demi Moore and Gackt.

Jack and Jill: Movie Review

Jack and Jill
By: Lakwastera Lovers

With Adam Sandler in this comedy flick we automatically thought that the movie would be twice as funny from his previous films.  But the formula did not work out as this was nothing compared to his other movies.

Jack (Adam Sandler) is a successful ad executive living with his wife, Erin (Katie Holmes) and two kids. But every Thanksgiving her twin sister Jill (Adam Sandler) always pays a visit to his family which he really don't like as they both can't get along. But this year Jill wants to stay longer making much mess than the usual

Jack and Jill was just terribly made, the jokes was not funny and we really can't believe that this is an Adam Sandler movie. One of our favorite comedy actor that made us enjoy Click, 50 First Dates and Grown Ups. Now we were thinking what happened to this movie? Safe to say that this is the worst film made by Adam Sandler. Jill is annoying, Katie Holmes was barely felt and  the only fun part was Al Pacino doing a dance number for the Dunkin Donuts commercial.

Overall and i hate to say this that we have to agree with the critics that this movie is a garbage. The comedy was dry and unacceptable. You might well not try to see this film as it would disappoint you big time.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 2 out of 10 stars

Cast: Adam Sandler, Katie Holmes, Al Pacino and David Spade

Unofficially Yours : Movie Review

Unofficially Yours
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Just can't wait to see the most talk about movie this love month. It is the second week of this film and the theater is jam packed as if we were still watching a premiere night. And yes it is OFFICIAL that this movie already reached the 100 million mark in just a week.

Mackie (John Llyod Cruz) met Cez (Angel Locsin) in a beach where they had a one night hook-up. Surprisingly they met again in his new job in the Manila Bulletin. Both agreed to have a no commitment relationship that only intends to have fun. But soon Mackie fall in love with Cez which leads into complication because Cez is still hurt from her past relationship and afraid to take the risk in getting hurt again.

We really loved the movie, it's like a Filipino version of  Friends with benefits starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis but Unofficially Yours had a different attack that leads to a lot of fun and cheerful scenes. The leads were at the top of their prime performing in their playful characters. The story was enjoyable all throughout. A very well made romantic comedy genre, though it just lacks a little of cheesy "kilig moments" that Star Cinema films always had. But still the humor and the presence of the stars was strongly felt providing a nice chemistry between the leads in the whole movie.

Director Cathy Garcia Molina never fails in her masterpiece. She always had that magical touch in making this kind of films that always leaves a mark.  John Llyod Cruz always a perfect lead that can make any movie a sure hit and adapts well with Angel Locsin, maybe because the two already knew the style of each other as they worked together in Immortal. They are a  perfect combination and they really handled their emotions well specially in the serious scenes.

The really fun part is the "patweetums" looks of John Llyod in most of the scenes. The supporting cast also did a nice job in comedic parts. Overall Unofficially yours is not a chick flick, It's a movie to enjoy that is pleasant to watch. It's not to late for the guys to have their post valentines day movie date with their girl in this awesomely funny romantic movie.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 8.5 stars out of 10

Cast: John Llyod Cruz, Angel Locsin, Edgar Allan Guzman, K Brosas, Edgar Mortiz and Tetchie Agbayani.

Why Avida is a staunch advocate of OPM

TUNOG NATIN OPM ARTISTS AND AVIDA EXECUTIVES show their unity in the effort to preserve and build on the legacy of Original Pilipino Music during the album launch of "Tunog Natin: Songs From Home", an all-OPM album that gives a fresh sound to OPM classics as well as original tracks.

Why Avida is a staunch advocate of OPM

ORIGINAL PILIPINO MUSIC (OPM) is the soundtrack of our lives. That’s something many Filipinos easily take for granted—but just think: what better way to feel hope and inspiration than to hear “Umagang Kay Ganda” in the morning? How could we express romantic love if we didn’t have “Harana”?

Knowing that OPM is a vital part of Filipino culture and identity, Avida Land Corp. is doing its part to keep original Filipino music alive, meaningful and relevant to a new generation of Filipinos.

Aside from providing families with quality, affordable homes, Avida is fully supporting OPM-related projects. Two of these projects are the “Tunog Natin!” series of all-OPM concerts and the compilation album “Tunog Natin: Songs From Home”.

Avida is always looking for ways to help nurture Filipino culture for nation-building. And it happens that OPM is a powerful way to unite us and strengthen our national identity. This is why Avida chose to be part of the concert series and produce the OPM album,” says Tess Tatco, Avida Land Marketing Head

While Avida is known for building quality dream homes for Filipinos, we also wish to build a strong foundation and home for OPM in the hearts and minds of Filipinos. And besides, we at Avida are big fans of OPM and we wish even more Filipinos would love it as we do,” Tatco adds.

Bridging past and present
Avida believes that one of the best things about OPM is it allows Filipinos to reminisce about the past as well as enjoy the present. “Tunog Natin: Songs From Home”— which is composed of 10 tracks of authentic OPM music—blends a harmony of classic OPM songs and new musical creations. These songs talk about first love, first heartbreak, coming of age, and other things that everyone can relate to.

OPM likewise links history to younger listeners. Tatco says, “In the album, collaborations between artists of different music genres gave old OPM hits a unique and fresh sound; even young listeners would enjoy the songs. It’s a great way of linking the great, meaningful music of the past to the younger generation.”

An example of such collaboration is rapper Gloc-9 and jazz singer Tricia Garcia’s recording "Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko", which was popularized by Sharon Cuneta and written by Rey Valera. Tricia gave the song a sweet, romantic feel, while Gloc-9 added rap verses.

JAQ, VOCALIST OF KISS JANE, shows off her charm as well as the all-OPM album, "Tunog Natin: Songs From Home.'

A showcase of talents
Filipinos are among the best singers and musicians in the world—and their talent shines brightest when they perform OPM. This is yet another reason to love original Filipino music. For the compilation album, Avida gathered together 16 of the best Filipino musical acts from various genres. From promising young singers to OPM legends, “Tunog Natin: Song’s From Home” is a great showcase of Filipino musicianship.

Artists who took part in the album include OPM legends Joey “Pepe” Smith; Jim Paredes; Medwin Marfil of True Faith and Gloc-9; as well as pop divas Faith Cuneta and Arnee Hidalgo. OPM’s most promising young acts also joined the album, including Sheng Belmonte, Princess Velasco, Letter Day Story, boyband 1:43, Myrus, Tanya Markova;, Kiss Jane and Tricia Garcia. 1990s alternative rock icons Mcoy Fundales and Barbie Almalbis complete the line-up.

We have so many great artists and each of them contributes in cultivating OPM. We’re glad we’ve worked with local artists who are very passionate about promoting local music. The album is a celebration of the beauty of our very own brand of music,” says Tatco.

TRUE FAITH FRONTMAN Medwin  Marfil and producer-songwriter Jonathan Ong discuss the importance of OPM in creating a strong Filipino identity and in uniting the nation.

Homegrown artists were likewise featured in the “Tunog Natin!” concert series that Avida supported. Some of the noted performers that joined in the free OPM concerts were Jim Paredes, The Dawn, Noel Cabangon, Jaya, True Faith, Myrus, Arnee Hidalgo and Callalily, among others.

Both the ‘Tunog Natin’ concert series and compilation album are major contributions to Filipino music. They benefit the audiences who get exposed to quality Filipino music and they help Filipino music artists as well, who get the opportunity to reach their listeners. “We are very thankful to Avida for supporting us,” says multi-awarded singer-composer Myrus.

These sentiments were echoed by Jaq, vocalist of the band Kiss Jane, who is part of the “Tunog Natin” album. “All artists, especially newcomers, need the right opportunities to bring their music to Filipino listeners. Our band joined the ‘Tunog Natin’ concert and the compilation album because we believe in the same advocacy as Avida. We thank Avida for this opportunity,” she said.

LETTER DAY STORY collaborated with Pinoy Rock legend Joey "Pepe" Smith for a rocking rendition of The Dawn's signature classic "Salamat".

OPM unites Filipinos
OPM likewise brings people together, according to Tatco. Music, as they say, is a common language that breaks through physical barriers and dissolves differences.

A simple song can help in nation building. When we develop a commonality, we are able to communicate with other people despite our differences. In a way, OPM becomes our common language—something that binds us together,” she says.

Calling for support

This Means War: Movie Review

This Means War
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Been waiting a long time for this movie, from the very first time we saw the trailer we actually know this would be good. This Means War did a pretty good job in making our night memorable.

Tuck (Tom Hardy) and FDR (Chris Pine) are best buddies and working as top CIA agents. They friendship turns into a competition when they both fell in-love with Lauren (Reese Witherspoon). With both man swearing to fight fair in winning her heart, the two used their special skills and techniques leading the match up in the most hilarious tactics for the name of love. Lauren has no idea that the two know each other and would lead her into a epic rivalry of the two.

No doubt about that this is the best movie we watched this year putting it on top of my list. This film was entertaining from start to finish. A lot of hilarious scenes that gets better and better. The chemistry between the leads are perfect with Reese Witherspoon, charming as ever completely bedazzled us in her beauty. Chris Pine as the boy next door type of guy in which he had that attractive smile that can seduce any girl. While Tom Hardy gave a softer side which we find quite entertaining. And add the annoying but funny Chelsea Handler that provided Rated R-comedy along the way.
The story was a riot with each scenes making the audiences laugh out loud in their seats, mixing it up with little fight scenes. The movie never got a dull moment that keeps us high octane all throughout. With such likable stars, the story certainly keeps the thing moving along. We really don't understand why the critics gave a low grade for This Means War or maybe they just want to watch a film full of dialogues that would make you sleep in a couple of minutes.

Overall the movie was really awesome, one of the best action comedy in recent years. We highly recommend this as we think this would really remove your stress and would make you laugh every minute.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it a perfect 10 out of 10 stars

Hugo: Movie Review

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Read a lot of positive reviews about the film and it is an Oscar nominee this year so we decided to watch it. Mainly released in 3D, Martin Scorsese made a brilliant film that was taken out from his childhood memories reliving what he had in the past.

Hugo Cabret (Asa Butterfield) was a young boy full of dreams living with his father (Jude Law), a clockmaker. One day his father brings home a broken automaton, which they promised to repair it. Then his father died in accident forcing him to live with his drunkard Uncle Claude that lives in a railway station where he is responsible in taking care of the clocks. Hugo was desperate to repair the automaton where he steals some parts to an old man (Ben Kingsley) that leads him in meeting Isabelle (Chloe Moretz). Soon both of them worked together and repaired the machine and found out the treasured secrets about the origins of the cinemas.

It is really a good film, with a mysterious story that feels like your reading a book. Digging deep with the lives of the stars revealing some secrets in their past. Interesting script with likable characters and a nice job making a 1930's setting. Though the film started slow it started to pick up at the latter part. At first you'll think that Hugo is trying to repair the automaton and get a message from his father but soon finding out the mysteries it holds inside. Leading him to a wonderful story that he could ever imagine.

Hugo is not only the star here but also the life of George Melies who is one of the pioneers of early cinemas. He is the one who reinvented the movies at his time as he was referred as the first cinemagician. He's success and his fall was narrated making the audiences understand where it really began. Asa Butterfield provided a good portrayal of Hugo, with those big blue eyes and the convincing acting full of  curiosity. While Chloe Moretz was full of emotions giving a huge lift to the cast. Ben Kinsley did a nice job characterizing the life of George Melies.

Though I am not a big fan of 3D movies, the 3D animation was handled excellently. The cinematography and the score was flawless. Overall Hugo deserves the Oscar nod.

The movie is enjoyable that has a full of charms and it's really a masterpiece.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 8.5 out of 10 stars

YOUR hair is your crowning glory but keeping it healthy and in style could be very expensive and time-consuming. If your schedule or budget doesn’t allow you the pampering of salon color, you may want to try at-home hair-coloring preparations that are really affordable and easy to use.

Casa Cellophane is hair-coloring product that gives hair a fantastic shine and adds a layer of color to your otherwise boring locks. It could be the solution to your mane problem if you want to try something exciting and stylish for your locks without having to go to a salon.

Recently, Casa Cellophane appointed the four charming and stylish young men of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) pop group 1:43 (pronounced as “one forty-three”) namely Anjo Resurreccion, Gold Aquino, Kim Nicolas, and Yuki Sakamoto as its endorsers to represent brand’s playful and colorful character.

I’ve been using Casa Cellophane for a while now and I’ve tried dying my hair red. The red hint of color is just perfect for my skin tone. It’s great that I can style my hair on my own with this product,” says Kim.

Meanwhile, Anjo shares his satisfaction in using Casa Cellophane as it has helped him treat his damaged hair due to frequent hair coloring.

In our profession we need to reinvent our hairstyles to look our best and be fashionable but sometimes too much styling damages my hair. Good thing, I’ve discovered Casa Cellophane. My hair is now shiny, healthy and manageable,” he says.

Ammonia, peroxide-free
Another great thing about Casa Cellophane is it’s ammonia and peroxide-free so it’s safer to use than most salon treatments. It’s a gentler alternative to modern day hair coloring methods thus it helps in treating the hair to make it healthy and shiny.
