Globe Business: Happy Connections

Pinoy Entrepreneurs Can Do More with Globe Business Tools

Entrepreneur and Globe Business ambassador Happy Ongpauco-Tiu is passionate about business--but is still happiest as a wife and mother. It’s not so easy to fulfil her various roles, however, because of her many responsibilities.

HAPPILY HIGH-TECH. Being tech-savvy makes entrepreneur and Globe Business Ambassador Happy Ongpauco-Tiu an effective businesswoman as well as a much beloved wife and mother. According to Happy, her use of telecoms solutions from Globe Business helps her have a balanced life: she can effectively run her business even when she's on-the-go, and she has more free time to be there for her husband and kids

Happy says that she always tries her best to live a balanced life as an entrepreneur, wife, and mother.

I am a housewife, a mother and an entrepreneur. I wake up in the morning to tend to Renzo before he goes to school. Soon, I take care of my baby Franchesco too! Then I check paper works for the office. By lunch time, I try my best to visit my restaurants when I’m not busy at home.

After lunch, I meet with my Management team for daily updates, do calls... calls.., calls, and emails to delegate responsibilities to my staff especially for my out-of-town branches.

Then in the afternoon I tend to my family and prepare dinner for them. After dinner, I spend quality time with my Hubby and kids – the highlight of the day that I enjoy the most!” she said.

Her family founded the iconic Barrio Fiesta restaurant way back in 1958 made Filipinos fall in love with their kare-kare, crispy pata and other dishes. It’s no wonder that when Happy grew up, she naturally went into the food business herself.

She’s helping run their family business, as Corporate Secretary of the Barrio Fiesta Group Middle East operations.

Happy also runs her own food company now—the Happy Concept Group of Companies—after establishing several restaurants including World Topps; Bento Box (American-inspired Japanese food); Hawaiian Bar-B-Que Restaurant (Boracay & Tagaytay); I Luv Backyard BBQ joint in Boracay; and Pamana Restaurant in Tagaytay.

She also has My Happy carts (themed food carts for kiddie parties) and her own Catering Kitchen which features Chef Happy’s homemade specialties.

Happy has even gone into the hotel business with her Boutique Bed & Breakfast in Tagaytay (a 7-bedroom boutique hotel with themed rooms) and the wellness business as well: Slim at Home, a mobile slimming clinic complete with doctors and medical assistants.

But wait. With all of these taking her time and attention, how does she every find time for her family and herself?

Telecoms technology

In her efforts to balance her many roles, Happy is thankful that she uses modern telecoms technology provided by Globe Business solutions.

I got my first mobile phone more than 20 years ago,” she says. “When my Dad got me one, on the very first year Globe offered mobile phones. It felt really great having to be able to communicate with other people just with a gadget.”

Through Globe Business solutions, Happy can instantly reach her employees through call, SMS, landline and vice versa.

As an entrepreneur, I am able to fulfil my responsibilities with the efficient assistance of Globe’s product lines,” she said.

Especially since most of her businesses are out of town or abroad, her needs for mobile phone, land line, and the Internet is crucial to running and troubleshooting the day-to-day needs of an enterprise.

While no business will ever succeed without the owner’s hands-on presence, a reliable Internet connection and a clear line on a phone can enable Happy to delegate, manage and connect instantly when the need arises.

Filipino entrepreneurs like Happy, who adopt the newest communications services and technology available to get in touch instantly with personnel on the ground for business, are finding it easier to manage their operations even from afar.

Especially in the kind of business that I am in, it’s a 24-hour monitoring thing,” she explains. ”You can get calls in the middle of the night to solve or answer queries. I have to say that modern telecoms technology is indispensible in this time & age. To be able to monitor your business from wherever you are at any time of the day is of utmost importance to ensure good service and finished products.”

More powerful texting

Globe Business Unlitext and Call is the solution to making affordable calls within a given team or staff of associates. It provides discounted rates on Globe Prepaid, Globe Postpaid, and Globe Landline.

Happy also uses Globe Business TxtConnect to maximize the reach of the SMS that she sends. TxtConnect is ideal for high-volume text campaigns and SMS blasts to employees and customers—with just one send, the SMS is broadcast to a large group of recipients. The service is Web-based, so it’s much easier to send compared to regular text messaging or making phone calls.

TxtConnect is charges lower text message rates. Subscribing to TxtConnect can save an entrepreneur as much as 35% in cost compared to a regular text messaging service. TxtConnect subscription plans start at as low as P1500 per month.

As the kind of entrepreneur who takes advantage of the current tech services, Happy has had to learn to use both mobile phones and the Internet to keep track of her many professional commitment.

Whichever is needed,” she agrees. “I do surf the Internet a lot especially nowadays that it’s almost impossible to transact business without it.”
In a time when modern telecom technology is developing at an exponential rate, each year offers more and more advantages for the Pinoy entrepreneur on the go. Its benefits are essential to bringing forward the success of any activity at a level where things are communicated clearer; problems are solved easier, at a pace that you dictate and doesn’t need to slow down.

Get business done quicker and, like Happy, enjoy time with your family free of the pressures of always having to be there.

Globe products and services is my connection not only to my employees but to my clients as well,” smiles Happy. “Globe is definitely a reliable partner in my day-to-day living”

Top 10: Best Movies from July to December 2012

Top 10: Best Movies from July to December 2012
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Once again here is our countdown of the best movies from July to December this year. You can also check this post to check if your guesses are right in our contest. This list is based on our own opinion you can also drop down your best movies at the comment section below.

10. TiktiK: The Aswang Chronicles

TiktiK: The Aswang Chronicles grabs the 10th spot and the sole Filipino film on our list. Maybe the coolest Tagalog film in terms of special visual effects. It's awesome and entertaining hoping for a sequel and hope that the Aswangs could call some reinforcements (zombies maybe?).

9. Hotel Transylvania

Adam Sandler really convinces us that he is Count Dracula. Hotel Transylvania is filled with fun and colorful characters with a really charming story about father & daughter relationship. This is one of the three animated films that easily entered our list.

8. Perks of Being a Wallflower

We're not a book lover so we really can't compare what's the difference between the book and the movie. Many approved that this movie adaptation is one of the best because it really stayed true to the book. With great performances from Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller, Perks is really hard to ignore.

7. Ted

Seth MacFarlane made this fluffy adorable bear alive but he's not an ordinary stuffed animal. Ted drinks beer, do some drugs, he is also foul mouthed and do some hook ups with prostitutes. It's and R-18 film but definitely gave a lot of laughs that is really memorable.

6. Rurouni Kenshin

We did not watch Samurai X when we're still young but after watching it on the big screen it made us an instant fan. After petitions and request Rurouni Kenshin graced through the silver screen and made the Otaku community fans happy. All of us are hoping for a sequel and we hope it's anytime soon, next year perhaps?

5. Sinister

Sinister enters at number five, a comeback movie for Ethan Hawke. Yes it is the best horror film this year. Sinister provided the thrills, excitement and nerve racking scenes that are really memorable.

4. Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn part 2

It's the final chapter of the franchise that rocked the world. Breaking Dawn part 2 provided the best fight scene that really made a sigh of relief for the fans afterwards. It's the best film in the franchise and what a way to end this with a bang.

3. Wreck-it Ralph

We really loved Wreck-it Ralph as we want it to have a tie on the 2nd spot. It has a lot of cool characters like Toy Story. A movie with heart and really made us smile after the film. A great film for the whole family to enjoy.

2. Rise of the Guardians

Rise of the Guardians occupies the number 2 slot. It's like Avengers of legendary characters combined in one film. The visuals are colorful and amazing. The actors that voiced the characters seems to be a perfect fit.  No doubt that Rise of the Guardians is the best animated film this year beating Wreck-it Ralph with a hair strand.

1.The Dictator

The Dictator claimed our top spot. Watched it twice in advance screening and we also watched it in DVD in an uncut version. We never get tired of laughing at all of the jokes and fun scenes in this movie. This is the best comedy film of the year and arguably our favorite movie this year. We simply just can't wait what Sacha Baron Cohen will do next.

Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako: Movie Review

Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

We admit that a lot of people are sick and tired of the Enteng Kabisote films every year. But you still can't take away the effort of bringing some fresh new characters and tons of laughter to every moviegoer that love
this franchise especially the kids. We watched last night and what we see is a lot of family and kids unite to watch it. Still the formula of fantasy comedy movies connects to its audience that brings entertainment which we think is very important.

Agimat (Bong Revilla Jr.) already proposed to Samara (Sam Pinto) so they can both start a happy family. He goes to Enteng Kabisote (Vic Sotto) to ask for help and tries to apply what he can learn with the Kabisote Family. While Ako (Judy Anne Santos) a high tech fairy from the Kingdom of Diwatara crosses the path of the two making their wives very uncomfortable. But with an impending threat caused by aliens, together they must join forces and set aside the conflicts so they can save our planet.

The Good: Enteng and Agimat tandem combining it with Judy Ann Santos is still something new. There is a lot of slapstick comedy that still made us laugh. There are also a lot of moral values for families that we can learn in fact they are more specific with preserving our environment. Vic Sotto still brings out the humor, we idolize him and respect his comedy. And we also love the duo of Wally and Jose

The Bad: They should reduce some of the bed scenes joke because the majority of the audience are kids. There are also a lot they can improve with visual effects. And well we hope they could change the title if they're planning to do another one for the next year.

Overall It's a family oriented movie, its funny and its entertaining. Serious people should avoid this movie because they would just bash it with negative thoughts. For us being a fan of this franchise we enjoyed it and we hope that all of the MMFF movies can generate a lot of viewers this holiday season.

Short DVD Reviews: 5 Horror Suspense Movies

Short DVD Reviews: 5 Horror Suspense Movies
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

It's Christmas Season and what a way to celebrate it by watching horror movies at home. We watched five flicks and we're going to give their grades whether they pass or not.

Silent Night
Directed By: Steven Miller

A killer Santa Clause is really cool thinking that he has flame thrower and an ax instead of gifts. And he's killing all the people on his naughty list. The sad thing is this psycho Santa is pretty lame in his violent acts except when he threw a girl inside a wood chipper machine alive.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 4 out of 10 stars

Deer Crossing
Directed By: Christian Grillo

Except for the promising poster this film is full of crap. It pretty much annoyed the hell out of us on what's really happening in this flick. It also looked dragging and the characters are boring. This will just waste your time.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 0 out of 10 stars

Directed By: David Brooks

This is another movie filled with dumb characters that is waiting to be killed and it also has an idiot killer who is just waiting outside stalking his prey. Aside from the cool getup of the psycho this movie is also a complete waste.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 2 out of 10 stars

Directed By: Richard Bates Jr.

Aside from the cool imaginative scenes, this movie doesn't really live with its intriguing poster.  It has a good storyline and a convincing lead star but as a whole this film is not that good because it lacks in tension making this flick funny instead of being scary.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 4 out of 10 stars

Directed By: Jennifer Lynch

Save the best for last, Chained really made our thriller movie marathon alive. It's not that scary but it has a quality story and some disturbing scenes. It also raises up the tension and it has a great set of actors that made the movie entertaining. Chained is hard to resist it's pretty good for suspense themed film.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 9 out of 10 stars

DVD Review: Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines

Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Wrong Turn hits its fifth installment where the franchise is having more idiotic characters but the killing spree continues to get nastier and bloodier than ever.

A group of friends travels to a small town in West Virginia to experience the legendary Mountain Man Festival on Halloween. When Maynard (Doug Bradley) and his three cannibal hillbillies decided to treat themselves and started to have a bloodbath in the town.

If you enjoyed other Wrong Turn movies there's nothing to worry about with bloodlines. The body count rises and the brutal scenes reached into another level. Though the characters and the victims are getting stupider than ever. You'll simply won't care about them and you'll just wish to see them get killed in the most sarcastic way.  It's just really funny how the hillbillies reach the victims so fast in every scene. Another thing is the town scenes really looked a studio built with cheap sets of materials but what we love is the blood splattering moments that's really hard to digest.

Overall Wrong Turn 5 provided cheap thrills and excessive brutality which the fans would still appreciate but with a lousy story, idiot characters and cheap settings, Wrong Turn 5 looks funny rather than scary.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 5 out of 10 stars

The Bay: Movie Review

The Bay
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

The Bay is the last SM Cinexclusive this year which you can avail a 50% discount by using your SM E-Plus card. Director Barry Levinson admitted that 80 percent of the movie is based on true facts.

On July 4, 2009 people are celebrating when the people of Claridge Maryland was swept with a deadly viral outbreak. Reporter Donna Thompson (Kether Donohue) talks in Skype and reveals a collection of hidden footage on what happened that day that claimed over 700 lives which was never been told.

Thinking the movie is based on facts it still lack the tension it should offer. What we like about is they made it look so real and disgusting which we found really cool. Though the pacing of the movie was slow and it is really boring at some point. Some might find it scary but some won't take this film seriously especially that this happened in the US. With found footage horror movies succeeding nowadays The Bay used that same formula but like a puzzle by putting different videos together to form the story.

Overall The Bay promises to give out sick and hideous condition of people who is hit by the outbreak. You might find it a little nasty especially when your enjoying you're favorite hotdog snack inside the theaters. For us, we're advising you to skip it but if you're looking to see the gross out things go for it. We just wished it could be better and provided some quality thrills that we felt missing in it.

Breaking the Monotony: Kids Meet Day and Night Dengue-Lamok in School

Learning empowers students to lead, create and change. As society changes and evolves, education rewards students with new lessons, improve their knowledge and in time prep them to bigger challenges and responsibilities. It will certainly be more stimulating and effective if students are given a break from the usual listen-to-lectures and take-pop-quizzes learning styles. To break the monotony, a totally different and daring learning strategy may well interest students to pay attention and learn more.
School children can’t hide their excitement as Daytime Dengue Lamok and Nighttime Dengue Lamok mingle and dance with them.
This is the very essence of the Green Cross School Crashers campaign. Recently launched in most Metro Manila schools, the Green Cross School Crashers is Green Cross’ pioneering school initiative to bring proactive information about day and night dengue lamok. With majority of dengue cases involving children below 10 years of age, it is crucial for kids to learn how they can protect themselves against dengue lamok.
Breaking New Ground
During the Green Cross School Crashers campaign, schoolchildren learn dengue facts in a fun and interactive way. Ms. Green, a Green Cross Insect Repellent Ambassador, easily gets the attention of students as she employs conversational and friendly interactive storytelling with the children as her active participants.
One of the schools the Green Cross School Crashers visited is Paco Catholic School in Manila. Remy De Leon, a second grader at the Paco Catholic School, finds it amusing to see two gigantic mascots in school. She gets to meet Daytime Dengue Lamok (Aedes aegypti) and Nighttime Dengue Lamok (Aedes albopictus), the two bad school crashers. These school crashers carry dengue viruses that may put their health at great risk.
Ms. Green introduced to us two gigantic school crashers. We learned how harmful they can be and why we should avoid them,” Remy recalls. “We had fun during the School Crashers campaign. Ms. Green taught us a new dance and we got the chance to groove with the school crashers.”
Children do not only learn about the harmful day and night dengue lamok, but also enjoy lively discussions and fun games. They also discover how to prevent the spread of dengue and other mosquito-related diseases by helping eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and by taking preventive measures.

I was so eager to go home that day to share with my family what I learned from Ms. Green. I discovered that the dengue lamok lay eggs and breed even in clean water. They love to stay in uncovered water containers, empty tires and flower vases that have stagnant water inside. And mosquitoes can breed in small water holders the size of a 25-centavo coin!” the seven-year old Remy muses.
Remy and the rest of her classmates get to take home a Day and Night Dengue Defense Kit, an educational brochure with dengue facts and fun activities inside. The Dengue Defense Kit is also printed in a colorful and easy-to-read style for kids so that they will easily understand information from possible breeding grounds of mosquitoes to proven and effective dengue defense measures.

Eager students participate in interactive discussion about the harmful day and night dengue lamok.

Pass the message
Research says that the attention span of young learners is about seven to 10 minutes; that is, the brain will lose focus unless its attention is recaptured every seven to 10 minutes. And with Green Cross School Crashers, students are given the opportunity to reflect on the story as it is told in a very animated approach. Indeed most students find it entertaining – it gives them a better chance to take interest – if images, new characters and sounds were used to aid in the learning process. This gives students the opportunity not only to enjoy themselves, but to remember the lessons and, consequently, share this new knowledge at home. Kids, for instance, may be able to pass on to their parents not only the harmful effect of the two school crashers but also tips on how to keep their homes and communities free from becoming dengue lamok breeding sites.

The Green Cross School Crashers team visits schools within Metro Manila to empower students, parents and teachers of the proper dengue defense and also educate them on the dangers of dengue.

Empowering kids to protect themselves
It is the ultimate aim of the Green Cross School Crashers to equip the dengue-vulnerable age group with awareness on dengue transmission and prevention. One proven and best line of defense against dengue is the use of insect repellent lotions.
Especially formulated to give complete protection against day and night dengue lamok, Green Cross Insect Repellent Lotion offers up to 10 hours protection per application. In addition, it also gives the high level of anti-bacterial protection – proven to kill up to 99.9% of disease-causing germs – that the Green Cross brand is known for.
My mommy says we will upgrade to the new Green Cross Insect Repellent Lotion. I really like the fragrance as well as its non-greasy feel. I had dengue last July of this year and we stayed in a hospital for weeks. I don’t want that to happen again,” Remy relays.
Green Cross Insect Repellent Lotion comes in two variants, Active Protect which provides up to 10 hours of protection and Family Protect which provides more than 4 hours of protection. Both are proven by experts to provide complete protection against both daytime and nighttime dengue lamok. It also comes in both bottles and sachets, making it perfect to have at home or inside one’s bag.
The Green Cross School Crashers has been around various Metro Manila schools. An innovative way to teach students, teachers and parents on how to prevent and control dengue, this pioneering school activity employs an alternate teaching style that is effective in holding the interest of children. It also boosts any student’s confidence as it gives children their own share of responsibility of protecting themselves against dengue in their schools and communities.

DVD Review: Smiley

By: Lakwatsera Lovers

A low budgeted slasher flick that's really hard to ignore because of an intriguing poster. Smiley has the elements to give out some scares and excitement but just failed to capitalize handling out a huge disappointment.

Ashley (Caitlin Gerard) is a college freshman witness Smiley kills various people in random chat room. Smiley is a killer who can be summoned if you type the phrase “I did it for the lulz”  three times. Intrigued she and her friend (Melanie Papalia) tried it at home if the urban legend is real. Learning that Smiley exists Ashley is  now being paranoid that she might be the next victim.

Smiley forgot one thing that is important in a thriller movie, to give some chills to its audience. Aside from it you just simply can't take the actors seriously with their very lousy acting. Plus the fact that the killer only stab his victim with a knife in the dullest way possible. Another catch is that the twist in the end annoys us making the the whole story pointless.

Overall Smiley will just waste your precious time. Don't even dare to watch it as we assure you that this film is a crap. We'll just end it here because we've run out of words on how to diss this movie.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 1 out of 10 stars

Casts: Caitlin Gerard, Melanie Papalia, Shane Dawson, Andrew James Allen, Liza Weil, Roger Bart
