Immortals: Movie Review

Immortals
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Honestly Immortals did not reach our expectations. The trailer was good as it motivated us to be excited to watch it. The first 30 minutes of the film was boring as the story was going nowhere. The dialogues was not that clear. The trailer gave all the exciting bits and revealed all the cool scenes. The only positive side we enjoyed was the battle between the Gods and the titans with the slow-motion fight scenes, it was really awesome.

King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and his army was storming across Greece to find the long lost bow of Epirus. With this bow he can overpower the Gods of Olympus to become the undisputed ruler of the world. Hyperion's Army was indestructible as they destroy anyone in their path. Meanwhile a brave man named Theseus (Henry Cavill) vows to avenge the death of his mother in one of Hyperion's raids. When he meet the Oracle (Freida Pinto) a young woman who has the power to see the future, she convinced Theseus that he is the only hope to stop the King's plan. With her help Theseus assembles his own army and embraced his destiny to fight for the future of the whole humanity.

With the Greek mythology as their concept, I felt that they over done it. It also lacked in battles scenes though the visuals of the fight scenes was outstanding. The pacing of the story was too slow as we kept on waiting when would we see the exciting bits. Immortals was not that bad it should have been better. If you are planning to watch it don't expect too much Conan the Barbarian was way better than this.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 5 out of 10 stars

Soyami Soya Chips Advertorial : An Appetite For Health

Soyami Soya Chips Advertorial :  An Appetite For Health

There’s a saying that goes, “If the food tastes good, it’s bad for you. If the food tastes bad, it’s actually good for you.”

Healthy eating is proving to be quite a challenge due to the misconception about healthy foods being bland and tasteless. But in reality, eating nutritious food is not that difficult. In fact, it may surprise you to find it delicious.

There‘s a lot of food out there that don’t require any sacrifice and give up your favorite guilty food pleasure altogether. It’s just a matter of snacking smart and finding a better, nutritious alternative to your indulgences.

Take the unassuming soya, for example.
 Super Soya

The soya bean is a type of legume just like beans, peas, and peanuts, which can provide twice as much protein as grains. Soybean products include soymilk, tofu, miso, tempeh, soya meal, soya sauce and bean paste among many others.

Soya is a good source of complete protein. A complete protein is one that contains a significant amount of all the essential amino acids needed by the human body for optimum health. Soy protein is the nutritional equivalent of meat, eggs and dairy, and can therefore replace animal-based protein.

Soy has been under the spotlight as a possible “superfood” that can reduce the risk of certain health problems. With an impressive nutrient profile that is high in dietary fiber and protein, cholesterol-free, and an excellent source of phytochemicals and minerals like phosphorus, potassium, calcium and iron, soy is by far, the best and most complete nutritional, beneficial plant food we can all take advantage and put to good use.
Amazingly, there are many types of food that we love which can be made or derived from soy. From ice cream to burgers, milk, breads, butter, cheese, nuts and yes, even chips!

Soyami Soya Chips not only tastes good, but it’s actually good for you, too. Made from 100% naturally grown soya, it is high in protein and fiber. It has no MSG, no trans fat and no added preservatives. No wonder it’s approved and highly recommended by The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Fitness Nutritionist Chef, Nadine Tengco, as part of the meal plan. “Unlike animal products, soya is low in saturated fat which makes a good source of cholesterol-free and low fat protein. Soyami Soya Chips provides a healthier snack alternative to the contestants. The Soyami range of snack products contains the right amount of carbohydrates, protein, and fiber, while having reduced amounts of fat and sodium.”
She also adds, “Mindless snacking contributes to the weight gain in most of the contestants. The high protein content of Soyami Soya Chips will significantly reduce the sugar spikes that often occur in high-carb, high-fat snacks. And because Soyami Soya Chips comes in properly portioned packaging, it gives the contestants just the right amount of calories per pack, which would not in any way, compromise them in their quest to lose weight.”

Plus, not only did Soyami Soya Chips pass with flying colors on nutritional and taste tests, she also gave it excellent marks on a snack versatility test, “Aside from just being a stand-alone snack, Soyami Soya Chips can be creatively used in preparing and cooking dishes. For instance, instead of using breadcrumbs, you can use crushed Soyami Soya Chips for that added crunch while increasing protein content of the dish. You can also crush the chips coarsely and sprinkle on soups and salads as you would on croutons. And you can make nachos healthier with Soyami Soya Chips partnered with your favorite salsa dip.”

Start a good eating habit with Soyami Soya Chips. It’s for your own good!
Soyami Soya Chips is available in three exciting flavors – Original, White Cheddar and Pizza. Visit www.amsoyami.com for more information about soya. Follow us on Twitter http://twitter.com/healthysoyami and like us on Facebook at http://facebook.com/healthysoyami.

The Adventures of Tintin: Movie Review

The Adventures of Tintin
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

First, Thank you to Pinoy Exchange for the invites to the special screening of The Adventures of Tintin last night at IMAX SM North Edsa.

Once again the classical comic character, Tintin will be seen in the big screen. The popular series created by  Belgian artist Georges Rémi will provide another exciting mystery adventure that is set to release in 3D. Unlike Bruce Wayne or Peter Parker, Tintin doesn't have alter ego or superpowers, he just doesn't run out of ideas.

When a courageous young journalist Tintin (Jamie Bell) buys a model ship called the Unicorn, he's life was caught up in his newest adventure that is full of mystery. He was pursued by the merciless Sakharine (Daniel Craig) as he wants to unveil the secrets hidden in that model ship. Together with his trusted companion Snowy they will try to unlock The Unicorn's secret. But they need the help of Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) as he would be the key and start of this magnificent adventure.

Steven Speilberg never failed to impress me, thanks to his brilliant mind as he always have a full of surprises in his bag of tricks. The movie adaptation of Tintin is marvelous. The visuals are perfectly made as it brings the legendary comic character into life. The story was filled with excitement and adventure. At some point we thought the movie would never end, until the credits was rolled in. Solving the mystery about the 'Secret of the Unicorn' was full of contingent search of clues with thrilling situations that will totally amaze the viewers.

For us Tintin is a combination of Sherlock Holmes and Indiana Jones. A genius that have an extraordinary life that is encrypted in his personality. There are jaw dropping moments and the characters seems so realistic as they have perfect movements, reaction and emotions. We also enjoyed Snowy, this astonishingly cute fur ball and as we may say 'intelligent dog'; as the best accomplice that dethroned any sidekick you can name or think of. We think that The Adventures of Tintin is the best animated film released this year so don't dare miss it.

The Adventures of Tintin will be released on November 30, 2011 and it is available in 3D and IMAX. It is distributed by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corporation

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 9 stars out of 10.

DVD Review: The Task

The Task
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

A group of people was abducted only to find out that they are in a new reality TV show. All of them would be locked out in a isolated prison completing each task to win the cash prize. what they don't know is there are some secrets to be unveiled of the cells diabolical past.

The story undeniably fresh with different task to complete in a haunted place, definitely a very good idea.  The negative thing for the task was the pacing of the story. I felt like nothings happening, I don't feel any excitement and there's nothing to be scared of. Even a 3 year old kid can't be spooked in any part of it. A little blood no gruesome killings and a boring killer. The twist was sloppy snd sucked completely. The Task will just waste your time.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 1 out of 10 stars.

DVD Review: Husk

Husk
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

A group of friends went to a road trip, accidentally hitting a crow they decided to abandon their vehicle leaving them stranded into an isolated cornfield. Hidden deep within the cornfield is an old farm house. Soon they found out that the place was haunted by evil spirits.

Scarecrow slasher flick concept is exciting for me as I love the Jeepers Creepers series. Too bad the part 3 is still in the shelves expected to be released in 2013. Husk did not quite gave terrifying scenes or extreme killing spree. The story was too shallow, sloppy and little bit boring. The interesting part here was Nathalie's death, In slasher flick movies girls always survive in the end. Here Nathalie is the only girl in the group and she was diced out early. Overall its a disappointing movie.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 2 out of 10 stars

Happy Feet 2: Movie Review

Happy Feet 2
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

First we would like to thank Pinoy Exchange for the advance screening tickets we won in their website. The screening was co-sponsored by ABS-CBN and Hero channel. A lot of freebies and prizes was given away including a Blackberry phone. We also had a chance to meet the two adorable penguins Erik and Mumble.

Again the cute adorable penguins are back for another fantastic adventure that kids will surely love. Once again the main attraction is the singing and dancing of the cute birds but the story never gets old. The animation once again brings new dimension now that the film is released in 3D. The music are delightful at times and you'll forget about the shallow storyline simply because you'll be hypnotize with the charming characters.

Erik (Ava Acres) the son of Mumble (Elijah Wood) and Gloria (Pink) is a choreo-phobic penguin. After being humiliated in their tribe he runs away from home. Together with two of his friends Atticus and Boadicia (Benjamin Flores Jr. and Meibh Campbell) they met Sven (Hank Azaria) a penguin with the ability to fly and has a secret identity. Mumble goes after to the kids but on their way home they found out that the ice broke off and their penguin community is trapped. Now its up to Mumble and Erik to find a way to save their tribe.

Meanwhile the interesting part is Bill and Will voiced by Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. They are a microscopic krill trying to move on the top of the food chain and making an adventure of a lifetime. They are out of the story with the penguins but they gave another fancy characters that is hard to hate.

Happy Feet 2 gave a lot of topics like climate change but focused more about parenthood but the connection between Mumble and Erik should have made a bigger impact. I missed Britanny Murphy's voice but Pink really did a good job as her replacement because of her solid voice for Gloria. With all the energy and musicale performances of the penguins Happy Feet 2 will brace you with irresistible characters highlighted by Erik. Overall we still recommend this animated antarctic film for the whole family.

BUM HOLDS FASHION SHOW WITH COSPLAY AS THEME

BUM HOLDS FASHION SHOW WITH COSPLAY AS THEME

Local clothing brand BUM brings the Cosplay trend to the fore with a one-of-a-kind fashion show at the SM Mall of Asia.

If you have a story to tell, don’t keep it to yourself. Flaunt and let the world know through fashion.
This has been the youth’s battle-cry these days. Not only are they daring, wearing their colors on their sleeves proudly, they are pushing the envelope when it comes to dressing up, as well.

Even the term “costume play” or “cosplay”, which is the act of dressing up as a fictional character inspired from an anime TV series, or a character they idolized, has found its way into the youth’s wardrobe. Cosplay is no longer a style but it has become a “trend” that is normally seen and worn on the streets.

To underscore this “daring” and “experimental” style philosophy, BUM is putting together a fashion show on November 25 at the Music Hall of the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Called Reveal Your Darkside, this fashion celebration is the culminating event of an ongoing nationwide contest. Since August 8, BUM has been receiving through its website (http://www.bumequipment.com.ph) countless entries from young stylistas who want to share the world their passion for the brand and the cosplay trend.

Interestingly, the fashion show will also showcase BUM’s new collection for the Holidays. So cosplay and BUM fanatics can expect a one-of-a-kind fashion event that would inspire them to express their angst, passion, and identity more freely through BUM Collections. Mall goers will enjoy BUM’s treats as early as 1pm with live games on screen.
