Captain America The First Avenger : Movie Review

Captain America: The First Avenger
By: Matt Suzara

Captain America another blockbuster movie that will open today on your favorite cinemas will surely give a lot to talk about. Two thumbs up for this movie and in my opinion this is the Best Avenger film. An explosive movie everybody will love. I like the costume of Captain America they didn't overwork it is so simple and cool. They also did a nice job on the 1940's world war setting in which Captain America originated from unlike others that are already in the present day. The fight scenes was exceptional even if some of it was brief action scenes it still awesome and the battle with Red Skull was a total package. I'll rate the film 5 out of 5 stars it will surely be a big hit, already edging Harry Potter and the deathly hallows 2 for the top spot in the weekend box office in the US. And guys if you are waiting for The Avengers movie in May 2012 you'll see the trailer after the credits of this movie.

* Sam Worthington and Will Smith were in early talks for the role of Captain America. Later on Garrett Hedlund, Channing Tatum, Scott Porter, Mike Vogel, Sebastian Stan, Chris Evans, Wilson Bethel, John Krasinski, Michael Cassidy, Chace Crawford and Jensen Ackles were on the final shortlist for the role. Kellan Lutz, Ryan Phillippe and Alexander SkarsgÄrd carried out auditions, but ultimately the role went to Chris Evans.

* Chris Evans seventh comic book movie after the two Fantastic Four movies, TMNT (2007) Push (2009)The Losers, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

* Contrary to popular belief, a body double was not used for Chris Evans for the scenes when he was skinny. The filmmakers had originally planned to hire a body double and superimpose Evans' face onto the double's body, but ultimately scrapped the idea since director Joe Johnston claimed that Evans moved in a unique way and that no body double could replicate his movements. Ultimately, the filmmakers utilized digital technology to "shrink" Evans down, essentially erasing portions of his physique, until they came up with what the filmmakers called "Skinny Steve". Over 250 shots were filmed like this, and because the shrinking process left empty space in the background, many of the scenes had to filmed in front of a green screen so that they could superimpose the backgrounds back into the scene.

Blitz: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

It's a cop-killer versus a killer-cop, Jason Statham is one of my favorite hollywood action star with outstanding movies like Transporter, The Expendables, Death Race and Italian Job. I hate to say this but this is the most boring film I've seen in the big screen this year. I know that the plot is intended to be a more realistic and another new role for Statham but it lacked in action scenes that made the movie dull. A lot of talkies a lot of nonsense and a lot of violence that made this movie a R-18 movie. If you are a big fan of Jason Statham I am telling you to just wait it in the video rental stores so that you wont get disappointed. It is just a waste of time and a waste of money if you watch this movie .

Cast : Jason Statham, David Morrissey, Bill Champion, Zawe Ashton, Mark Rylance, Elly Fairman

OPM boyband 1:43 translates online popularity to phenomenal album sales

OPM pop sensation 1:43 (pronounced as “one forty-three”) rule the local record bars with their debut album “Time for Love” by consistently being on the top 10 bestselling OPM album charts since it was launched in April.

Now on its third print, the slambum or slambook-album under MCA Music continuously rakes sales and competes with the records of popular OPM artists despite having minimal television and radio exposures. In fact, it landed on the No. 2 spot in Odyssey’s top OPM albums last April. “Time for Love” currently enjoys the No. 4 spot in the Best-selling OPM Album Chart of Astroplus.

1:43’s popularity is likewise evident in their school and campus shows that are always packed with screaming fans, especially teenage girls, that go crazy over them.

We did not expect this kind of reception because 1:43 isn’t getting so much radio and TV mileages yet. I think their phenomenal sales shows that the boy band’s online popularity is translating into huge album sales,” says talent manager and music producer Chris Cahilig.

1:43 have also conquered the fashion scene by being the new ambassadors of innovative teen retail brand F'g Freshgear. Their bus ads can be seen along the main roads of Metro Manila.

While there will be big movements in the musical career of 1:43 in the coming months including a music grant from a huge Filipino fast food chain, we are focusing our efforts in bringing the boy band and their brand of OPM pop music closer to their youth fan base,” adds Chris.

1:43 is composed of four talented, charming, and stylish lads, namely, Anjo Resurreccion, a University of Santo Tomas Psychology graduate and a member of a university theater group; Gold Aquino, a Business Administration student from the Centro Escolar University (CEU) and a campus heartthrob; Kim Nicolas, a Nursing student from Trinity University of Asia and a Candy Magazine model; and Yuki Sakamoto, an Hotel and Restaurant Management student from CEU-Makati and the main vocalist of the group. The boy band was initially marketed in social networking sites like Facebook and Youtube before their official release.

Time for Love” is a collection of feel-good original Pinoy pop songs, including their minus one versions. It also gives music fans a glimpse of the personal lives of the 1:43 members as it features interesting and revealing trivia of the boys, plus their exclusive photos.

What probably makes “Time for Love” a huge hit among music lovers is the refreshing mix and sounds of the songs as well as their heartfelt lyrics. Critically acclaimed producer and arranger Jonathan Ong of SonicState Studio and brilliant singer-composer and vocal arranger Myrus collaborated with 1:43 to give the album distinct and feel-good energy.

To date, 1:43’s Fanpage in Facebook has garnered over 33, 000 “Likes” and their YouTube videos are being widely circulated.

Time For Love” by 1:43 is presented by Glitz and Dreamgirl Cosmetics by 4U2 and is supported by F’g Freshgear Jeans and Avida Towers. More information and updates about 1:43 are available in their official Facebook fan page or you may call Chris Cahilig Talent Services at 6647213 or 6872649 and 92.

Tanya Markova : A Fan's Overview

Tanya Markova
By: Kristina Marie Indangan

Tanya Markova is one of my favorite OPM band they surely got the cutest songs, unique outfits and super nicest band members. I loved their first single Picture Picture and started to get hooked with all of their songs. The first time I watched their live performance was dated last year in Robinsons Galleria a night i can never forget, they were super great an i was amazed and loved the band even more. Last Saturday night at the event sponsored by Avida Land Tunog OPM 2 I had the chance to watch them again. They performed their latest single Roadie Fernandez , Disney and Picture Picture. I know that they are allowed 3 songs only but when the crowd chanted more and I was screaming for another song "Linda Blair", they did not hesitate to do it.

After they perform I rushed down to the back stage to have a picture with them. The guard was strict and wont allow me but Iwa Motors said to the guard, " Ok lang po saglit lang naman po to Pinsan ko po siya kakakilala ko lang kanina" As a fan I was a very happy because other artist wont do that, I super love them I hope I can meet them again soon. Thank you Tanya Markova you made my night happy I hope you'll have many more songs to come and keep rocking guys...

Due to brisk sales and high demand, Avida Towers Centera is launching its second Tower on July 23, 2011, only four months from the launch of its first Tower, to make way for a fresh set of inventory available to buyers.

There are a lot of factors that make Avida Towers Centera attractive to both investors and home buyers, resulting to fast sales take-up,” Avida Land Project Strategic Management Group Head Dez Cruz said.

Avida Towers Centera also attracts buyers through its “in-city living” concept, which boasts of various amenity zones to cater to every lifestyle. This includes a two-floor retail area with shopping, dining and service establishments, which will be managed by the Ayala Malls Group.

" Captain America is my Favorite Marvel Super Hero"

Captain America is my Favorite Marvel Super Hero
By: Matt Suzara

Finally just a few more days and I can now watch the movie I've been waiting for so long, Captain America: The First Avenger will be out next week. I am a huge fan of this guy in the American flag inspired costume with his cool shield as his weapon. I have to admit it that he is my favorite marvel super hero not only in comics but in video games too. I always use him in Marvel vs Capcom with Gambit as his tag team partner making the double team finisher Royal Star ( Royal Flush + Charging Star). A lot of Hollywood stars were rumored about taking Steve Rogers role namely Sam Worthington, Channing Tatum and Will Smith but eventually Chris Evans was chosen in this comic book adaptation flick. I just hope that the battle between Captain America and Red Skull would be intense and would have more jaw breaking effects upgrading the battle scenes from the 1990 movie.

A lot of super hero movies was released this year and I am indeed the one of the many that are so excited to watch this film. Another movie to be exicted is the release of The Avengers in 2012 where all of your other favorite super heroes will team up, so what can you ask for?

And before you watch Captain America next week you should also buy your Captain America tees and shirts available at SM department stores nationwide so you can complete your ultimate viewing experience.

Prom (2011) Review

by: Kristina Marie Indangan

I totally envy this film because at my high school days we did not have a Prom night because my school is big and has a lot of students that don't have budgets for these kind of once in a lifetime events. I think that if you watch this movie you can relate and reminisce your high school days.

Tunog Natin free OPM concert holds second leg on July 23

Tunog Natin free OPM concert
holds second leg on July 23

FILIPINOS bring out their best in times of adversity—and now that Original Pilipino Music (OPM) is slowly fading, Filipino artists and audiences are working together to save it.

Efforts are currently focused on the second leg of Tunog Natin free OPM concert series to be held at the grounds of Avida Towers Centera along EDSA Corner Reliance St. on July 23 at exactly 7pm. Presented by Avida Land Corp., the concert showcases the best of Filipino music through the years. It coincides with the launch date of the second tower of Avida Towers Centera, Avida’s latest condominium offering in Mandaluyong City.

Power line-up
The all-OPM repertoire of Tunog Natin will be performed by some of the most respected artists in Filipino music from the 1980s, 1990s to the present.

They include: rock legend The Dawn; pop rock artist Tanya Markova; and pop quartet Kiss Jane; gold record singer-composer Myrus; acoustic prince Davey Langit; and balladeer Faith Cuneta. True Faith, who performed in the first “Tunog Natin!” concert, will be back to please the crowd with their New Wave-pop fusion.

Also in the line-up is singer-songwriter and actress Aiza Seguerra, one of OPM’s biggest, most talented stars.

One of the highlights of the show is undoubtedly the back-to-back performances of Kitchie Nadal and Barbie Almalbis, two of the greatest voices in the alternative pop-alternative rock scene. Kitchie’s edgy, intense vocals plus Barbie’s distinctly endearing singing style are a match that will surely wow the audience.

The legendary Mitch Valdes will also be performing. A veteran of music, theater, film and television, Mitch is one of the founders of Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM). She is currently the organization’s Chairman of the Board.

We want each leg of Tunog Natin to offer something different each time to highlight the richness of OPM. For this second concert, we again exhibit the many genres within OPM—we have a varied, exciting line-up of artists for this show,” says Myrus, Project Head of Tunog Natin.

I’m also proud to say that we have been consistent in keeping our promise to showcase the very best of OPM. The artists in this second Tunog Natin concert are top-notch. Whether they are younger acts or veteran performers, they are simply the best in their respective genres,” he adds.

OPM all the way
Event presenter Avida Land, Inc. is in full support of the show.

The success of the first Tunog Natin concert proves that Filipino audiences have not abandoned OPM. We need to focus our efforts into putting more OPM ‘out there’ where audiences are able to hear and enjoy it,” explains Tess Tatco, Avida Land Marketing Manager.

All Filipino music lovers are encouraged to attend the second Tunog Natin free concert—not only will we have great time reminiscing over classic OPM favorites, we will also see how the next generation of performers are taking our local music into new, thrilling dimensions. Best of all, we’ll be helping continue the legacy of OPM for future generations.

Tunog Natin is supported by the Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) and Aquaquest .

Temptation Island

Temptation Island
By:Matt Suzara

We watched Temptation Island last night at Gateway. The cinema was jam packed so we have to stay in the front seats because we were late. First I did not watched the original version but I think you can appreciate the movie much better if you already watched the 1980 version.

Temptation Island is all about the model search for Ms. Manila Sunshine turned into a disaster isolating them in an inhabited island without food and water. The funniest part for me is when Mikael Daez is pronouncing the name of John Lapus character from Joshua to Joswa. I also love the role of Ruffa Mae Quinto which I think became the scene stealer with the role of a wacky maid. Lovi Poe also made a brilliant performance with her bitchy role. Marian Rivera also gave a nice act with some hilarious moments particularly when they were chasing the Fried Chicken. The whole cast was good worth to see in the big screen.

Azkals Smothers Sri-Lanka Next Stop Kuwait

Azkals Smothers Sri-Lanka Next Stop Kuwait
By: Kristina Marie Indangan

We are the lucky ones who witnessed live the exciting game between the Azkals and Sri-Lanka yesterday at the jam pack Rizal Memorial football field. Not even the rain could stop thousands of roaring fans cheering loudly for our Philippine football team as they battled Sri-Lanka in the first round qualifier match for their quest to the Fifa World cup in 2014.

The Azkals (159th Fifa ranking) won the match 4-0 setting a date match-up with Kuwait (102nd) on July 23 and back here on July 28 for our home game. A big honor for our team making history grabbing our first win for Philippine football in a world cup qualifier. The first goal was made by veteran Chieffy Caligdon on the first 19 minutes of the match making the stadium roaring as the Azkals drew first blood. With Phil Younghusband scoring the 2nd goal the whole team was confident having 2-0 lead in the end of the first half. Angel Guirado scored the the 3rd point in the 51 minute mark of the second half ending the hopes of the Sri-Lanka squad. And again Phil scored a penalty kick to put icing in the cake for the celebration of the whole country as they finished the game 4-0.

As for us we salute the Azkals and hope that they win their next games and make all Filipino people proud. Go Azkals we all BELIEVE.
