La La Land: Movie Review

By:  Matt Suzara

Mia (Emma Stone) is a barista and also an aspiring actress who seems to never catch a break and have a chance to be a star. She meets a frustrated jazz pianist Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) who got fired out of his job on Christmas Day. Their first meet-up didn't end well, but it seems like destiny is making a path for the two cross with each other. Soon, we all follow the relationship between Mia and Stan, who is coming to thick and thin inside the colorful and imaginative world  of writer/director Damien Chazelle.

"La La Land" broke the record by winning seven out of seven nominations at the 74th Golden Globes Awards. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling star in this musical that turns two complete strangers falling in love with each other. The film is filled with vibrant musical numbers that are an eye stimulating treat for the viewers. It is also supported by mesmerizing performances coming from Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. However, you can't simply take away that there are just some stale moments that causes us to be attacked by Mr. Sandman at our seats during the screening.

The story is both romantic and heartbreaking where-in our lovely pair manage to bring in the right chemistry to make the entire film work. You'll feel how Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling play each phase of their relationship smoothly as if the two are a couple in real life. There is just such a tremendous amount of energy whenever the two bust their moves during the musical numbers as if you're watching a gorgeous play live on stage.

Overall, La La Land is a gorgeous film but not everyone can appreciate it at one glance. There are a lot of aspects in the film that can really be admired and the actors alone are one of the main reasons to catch this film on the big screen.
