Hotel Transylvania: Movie Review

Hotel Transylvania
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Hotel Transylvania is another typical animated movie who targets young audiences but it is also a fun film for adults who is still young at heart. It's a cool film filled with lively effects in 3D.

Count Dracula (Adam Sandler) creates a five-star hotel for monsters so they can avoid humans who might turn their brains into candies. He also built the resort to protect his only child Mavis (Selena Gomez) from leaving his side but on Mavis 118th birthday, Dracula gets an unexpected visitor. Jonathan is a traveler who accidentally finds a way into the hotel. His presence makes terrible headaches for Dracula so he decided to make Jonathan pretend that he is a monster while trying to get rid of him as soon as possible before all his guests finds out.

The characters were cute, all scary monsters we knew turned up to be funny and silly. The story was entertaining and filled with good humor. It's great for younger kids as it would make them laugh hard through the entire film. The 3D effects were done efficiently with a nice set of fun looking monsters inside a terrific castle that were constructed very well.

The voice cast are done neatly with all of them showing the lighter side of these awful creatures mostly seen as villains in other movies. Adam Sandler made Dracula so hilarious and genuinely did his trick in showcasing his talent. He is only the recognizable voice that stands out among the rest of the cast. Kevin James, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg and the others still made their valuable contributions to make the film witty and charming.

Overall Hotel Transylvania is one of the funniest animated film released this year from the delightful set of classic monsters in an unusual place with outstanding vocal performances from a talented cast. Best to watch it with kids as it should tickle their funny bones. It's alright to spend more cash for the 3d glasses for the gorgeous animation. Expect a lot of memorable moments that we won't spill out as we want you to watch it in the big screen.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 8.5 out of 10 stars

The Perks of Being a Wallflower: Movie Review

The Perks of Being a Wallflower
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Last night was the special advance screening of The Perks of Being a Wallflower at Sm Megamall Cinema 3. Thanks to 106.7 Energy FM and Movie Punch for the tickets.

Charlie (Logan Lerman) is only starting high school but he's already counting down the days until graduation. With his shy type attitude it is difficult for him to find new friends while he is still haunted by the death of his aunt when he was little. Eventually he was adopted by a kinky socialites seniors at school, including the glamorous gay Patrick (Ezra Miller) and her stepsister Sam (Emma Watson). The two quickly started to like him and begins to bring him on their group making Charlie feel accepted.

Eventually we did not read the book but we feel sure that the movie adaptation was pretty good based on the audience reaction and some reviews. It has an excellent story material that would make you pay attention in every single moment. The movie will make you reminisce the old school days thinking about your friends with those precious moments with them. It's all about high school drama with the true value of friendship with a little bit of disturbing scenarios including drugs but shown in an exquisite way.

Thanks to it's likable cast this film will surely be a hit. With Logan Lerman's perfect performance he sells the innocence of Charlie's character very well. Emma Watson was also impressive as it is her first highlighted role outside the Harry Potter franchise. While Ezra Miller was genuinely funny at times and probably the best from three lead stars. The remaining supporting cast was strong as well in giving out their wonderful contributions. All of the actors were definitely likable and all we can say that it is one solid cast.

Overall The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a very nice movie. When author Stephen Chbosky directed this adaptation of his book he made sure that the fans of the book would also love the movie. It has a perfect script, nice set of cast, it is well directed with strong awesome performances and a very cool soundtrack. We recommend this film as it's one of the best romantic movie so far this year and we are now looking forward to read the book.

Lakwatsera Lovers Rates it 9.5 out of 10 stars

Maroon 5 Goes Beyond Loud

 Maroon 5 Goes Beyond Loud
ICONIC PERFORMANCE AT AN ICONIC VENUE

All roads led to the Big Dome last Tuesday and fans from all over the city filled the iconic coliseum to the rafters in an unprecedented turnout as the pop-rock band Maroon 5 held the Manila leg of their Overexposed World Tour 2012. Although this was the third time the band performed on local soil, it seemed like it was their first as the event quickly turned from a one-night concert to a historic musical experience in the Philippine concert scene.

The queues at the newly-transformed Grand Atrium of the Smart Araneta Coliseum said it all. It was a veritable sea of humanity as excited fans snaked through the lines to enter the venue. There was a mad rush to buy the merchandise and the glow sticks around the coliseum concourse before they positioned in their places. No one wanted to miss a second of the much-awaited performance. Who could blame them? The mad scramble for tickets to the concert started as early as June when these were uploaded on TicketNet Online. In just a few days, the concert was sold out.

When Maroon 5 finally came on stage, the screams went beyond loud. Adam Levine and his band brought the house down with the opening number, “Payphone”. Glow-sticks illuminated the Big Dome as Adam Levine wowed the crowd with favourites that catapulted them to worldwide fame like “This Love,” “Harder to Breathe,” “Won’t Go Home Without You,” “Misery” and much, much more. Aside from their hits, the band also gave worthy covers of The White Stripes (Seven Nation Army), Justin Timberlake (SexyBack) and Human League (Don’t You Want Me). They even teased with samples of the dance craze “Gangnam Style” only to rouse the crowd and lead them to their finale number of “Moves Like Jagger.”

Levine also showed why he is considered as one of the world’s leading pop icons with his tireless energy as he crooned, rocked, and screamed their hits to the tens of thousands of Pinoys  in attendance. He sang, he played the drums and guitar, he teased, he rocked the Big Dome into a frenzy. No fancy stage-work and production was needed as the lead singer’s stage appeal and his band’s musical prowess were enough to keep the crowd electrified throughout the night.

The choice of venue couldn’t be more apt as the Big Dome has hosted numerous global icons in the past and has been the Philippine home of foreign acts for decades. It is but fitting that Maroon 5, a band that was able to deliver an iconic concert to their Filipino fans perform in the only iconic venue in the Philippines.

“My Extreme Transformation for Maroon 5” Promo Winner

Last September 18, 2012, one lucky Araneta Center Facebook fan enjoyed two front row tickets to the most awaited concert of the year—Maroon 5 Live in Manila 2012—by winning Araneta Center’s Facebook-based promo “My Extreme Transformation for Maroon 5.”

In line with the Smart Araneta Coliseum’s “extreme transformation”, we asked our fans to tell us about an “extreme transformation” they recently went through or plan to do in terms of beauty, fashion, and lifestyle.

Entries were posted in dedicated “My Extreme Transformation for Maroon 5” photo albums in Facebook starting September 13, 2012 to September 17, 2012. The entry with the most number of likes or votes at exactly 6PM last September 17, 2012 was announced the winner.

Promo winner Corey Uruga and her plus one, Camille Denyse, enjoyed a scrumptious dinner for two at Sachi and two front row tickets to Maroon 5.

Here’s what she had to say about the experience:

September 18, 2012, I considered [this day] the most wonderful and awesome event in my life. I was given a chance of a lifetime to watch my favorite band [sitting on] FRONT ROW seats, the Maroon 5, and to see up close the person you ever [wished for—ADAM LEVINE.

Our [pre-concert dinner] was at SACHI Restaurant. We were very excited. The concert was a BLAST. My niece (Camille Denyse—a fashion blogger) and I were standing, dancing, and singing all night. Took so many pictures and some videos for souvenir, of course. All my favorite songs were played—Misery, Payphone, Daylight, She Will Be Loved, and many more. ADAM is so HOT. The BAND is wonderful.

Until this very moment, I’m still floating with joy. I can’t find words to express how lucky I am. Still very lucky, I grabbed ADAM's cup of water.

Once again, thank you so much to the people behind this event, it’s a pleasure of making me part of the concert.”

Here in Araneta Center, we give you once-in-a-lifetime experiences! Keep visiting the Araneta Center Facebook fan page for more promos and contests about our upcoming shows and concerts!

Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles Promises a Great Mix of Jolt, Humor, and Thrill!

Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles Promises a Great Mix of Jolt, Humor, and Thrill!

Moviegoers will be impressed with Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles! Filled with both funny and scary moments, it encapsulates a great story of a man who fights a battalion of man-eating monsters. It also takes pride in being the first feature-length Filipino movie to be entirely shot on green screen, the latest innovation in computer-generated visual effects.

Presented by Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures, PostManila, Mothership, and GMA Films, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles brings together some of the most creative people in the industry, from lead actor Dingdong Dantes, lead actress Lovi Poe, plus a host of reliable supporting performers to executive producer Dondon Monteverde and writer-director Erik Matti.

Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles owes its origins to one fateful chat between Dondon (Monteverde) and Erik (Matti). “We were talking about an aswang concept and then we got so excited about putting to the test the structure of the companies we put together – from creative and production stage which is Reality Entertainment, down to our own post production companies which are PostManila and Mothership,” says Monteverde. “What was supposed to be a small-budgeted movie to jumpstart Reality Entertainment became a big-budgeted partnership with GMA Films and Dingdong Dantes’ Agostodos Pictures.”

Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles is different from other aswang films because it is basically structured as a “siege film.” “It is about a group of people with their own dynamics, trapped in one setting with the peril constantly hounding them outside of that setting,” explains Matti. “A siege angle gives a fresh take on a
familiar aswang story, thereby allowing us to explore the horror genre in new territories. We’re not limited to repetitive scare tricks. An aswang siege film opens up possibilities to explore not just horror per se. We can go into a bit of action, humor, character build-ups and a love story.”

Dingdong Dantes plays Makoy, the troublemaker forced to get his act together when an aswang siege descends on him and his loved ones, with characteristic relish and gusto. “I am proud of portraying any character that I have done in the past and those roles that I choose to engage in,” says the award-winning actor.

Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles has mysteries that will change lives forever when revealed. Will Makoy (Dantes) save Sonia (Poe) and their baby? Will he be worthy of another chance? Who will win in the battle between men and monsters?

The movie’s unique storyline also marks the return of seasoned director Erik Matti whose cinematic gems like Gagamboy, Dos Ekis,Exodus, Mano Po 2, and the Urian-nominated The Arrival come to mind.
With Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles, Matti finds himself working in a genre he is most adept in – horror-action interspersed with lighthearted moments. He certainly has not lost his touch and remains meticulous. Like Matti’s previous films, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles is marked with fluidity, a sense of style, and an almost maniacal attention to details.

It helps tremendously that such artistic minds are working together for a common purpose – to come up with a movie that is worth every movie patron’s money and time. As the movie’s hero Dingdong Dantes
intones, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles is one of those instances when he fell in love with a project at first read. “The script was perfect the moment we saw it,” says Dingdong whose production outfit Agostodos Pictures shares producing credits with Reality Entertainment, PostManila, Mothership, and GMA Films.
LJ Reyes who plays one of the aswangs in fact marvels over her role, saying her character “has skills in speed.” She surmises that working with a diverse cast and Matti gave her an experience that enhanced her acting skills. “It’s always an honor and pleasure to work with veteran actors. You learn a lot from them, from craft to professionalism to relationships with other people on the set. It humbles me. Direk Erik Matti is a brilliant director. He has an amazing mind and is very funny too! The set never felt like work. I always enjoyed every inch of it!”

With a hardworking cast, an exceptional director, remarkable special effects and other technical credits to back it up, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles is projected to be a most satisfying pre-holiday movie experience – a perfect blend of jolt, laughter and thrill!

Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles Opens on October 17, 2012

Dredd 3D: Movie Review

Dredd
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

Last night was the special advance screening of Dredd at SM Megamall and thanks to Movie Punch for inviting us. Cosplayers gathered around outside the cinema as they had a contest for the best outfit.

A complete reboot of the disastrous Stallone movie as many critics approved that this is one movie remake that actually works. It already received a lot of positive reviews from rotten tomatoes and it's better for you to see what the buzz is all about.

In the future Mega City One, “Judges” has the power of restraining peace and order in the city. They had their own choice as they can be a judge and an instant executioner. One judge named Dredd (Karl Urban) was paired with a psychic rookie (Olivia Thirlby) as they embark in a mission to stop Ma-Ma (Lena Heady) a dangerous drug dealer who's ruling a 200 story slumber while running a new slo-mo drug that is sweeping the entire city. Next thing they know the whole place was locked down and Ma-Ma ordered to execute the two judges.

Many would compare this movie to The Raid Redemption as the idea was pretty much the same but the story and the scenes stands out on it's own. Dredd provides non-stop action scenes that delivers right from the very beginning. Stitched with bloody outrageous scenes where some of it was trimmed down but still maintaining the tension it offers. The futuristic cop shows no mercy from anyone who crosses his path as he doesn't fear anyone as he is the law.

Karl Urban did a remarkable performance keeping it's character cool at all times. He shows no emotions making him a man that only cares about the law. We never feel that Karl Urban is present in this movie all we can see is Dredd with a rough voice who never removed his helmet off. Olivia Thirlby is the perfect psychic side-kick as she embraces her role well. While Lena Heady steadily showed a remorseless character that was really efficient.

Overall, Dredd is loaded with a lot of firefights and explosions. While the 3D effects were awesome  especially with the slo-mo scenes that's pretty incredible. Hopefully the movie would be appreciated by many as we are hoping for an upcoming sequel and a  start of a new comic book movie themed franchise.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 8.5 out of 10 stars

OPM boy band 1:43 releases second album

OPM boy band 1:43
releases second album

SENSATIONAL boy band 1:43 (pronounced as “one forty-three”) affirm their status as the ultimate OPM pop heartthrobs with the release of their much-anticipated sophomore album titled “Sa Isang Sulyap Mo” under MCA Music this September.

The album’s romantic carrier single “Sa Isang Sulyap” was released early this year as part of the Mang Inasal Mang Aawit Music Advocacy Program. It swept through the airwaves and became a phenomenal radio hit with listeners, especially among teens.

The song dominated most of the radio charts all over the Philippines and earned the No. 1 spot in the Philippine Radio Music Chart OPM Top 20 for a few weeks and was likewise included in the OPM MYX Countdown.

There are now close to 6,000 videos posted on YouTube using “Sa Isang Sulyap”—all in all, these videos have been viewed more than 23 million times. It is also one of the most downloaded songs today by mobile phone users.

It’s just right then, for 1:43 to name their sophomore album after the song that endeared them to more fans than ever. Their album “Sa Isang Sulyap Mo” includes all-original tracks written by the sentimental prince of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) Myrus and arranged by Jonathan Ong of SonicState Studio. It is a follow-up to their highly successful debut record “Time for Love” which was released in April 2011.

From the looks of it, 1:43 has an even bigger hit in their new album as its carrier single continues to peak in popularity: “Sa Isang Sulyap” went on to become the official soundtrack of “Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 4”. It has been played in popular TV shows like “ASAP 2012,” “Party Pilipinas,” “Gandang Gabi Vice,” “The Buzz,” “Walang Tulugan,” “KrisTV,” “Mars,” “Luv U,” “Happy Together,” “Angelito: Ang Batang Ama,” and many more.

1:43 is composed of four talented, charming, and stylish lads namely, Anjo Resurreccion, a University of Santo Tomas Psychology graduate and a MYX VJ Search finalist; Gold Aquino, a Business Administration graduate from the Centro Escolar University (CEU); Kent Malunda, a Political Science student from Silliman University in Dumaguete City; and Yuki Sakamoto, a Hotel and Restaurant Management student from CEU-Makati and the main vocalist of the group. Malunda recently replaced pioneer member Kim Nicolas, who left 1:43 to pursue a career in photography.

Aside from the monster hit “Sa Isang Sulyap Mo” and its acoustic version, the album features three newly recorded songs composed by Myrus that are definitive of the OPM pop sound today. The mid-tempo songs “Halika Na,” which also has an acoustic version, is about strong bonds of friendship while “Umaga, Tanghali, Gabi” talks about a lingering kind of love.
Meanwhile, the album’s final track “Hiling” is a classic OPM ballad about loving someone unreachable. It is the first time for the boy band, known for its feel-good brand of music, has ever recorded a sad song.

Our sophomore album is undoubtedly a product of our hard work and dedication in promoting OPM among the Filipino youth. With the musical direction of Myrus, we were able to record beautiful original songs,” relates the group’s spokesperson Anjo.

Our avid fans, and even critics, will definitely notice how we all have matured as artists in our new recordings. We are highly inspired because we know that millions of people out there are listening to us now,” he adds.

1:43’s lead vocalist Yuki, on the other hand, is grateful for the support they have been getting from their fans.

It’s still hard to believe that our song has touched our fans—to the point that it became their favorite love song. Sabi pa nila sa akin, parang yung ‘Sa Isang Sulyap’ na ang love song ng kabataan ngayon. Ibang klase ang feeling. It’s so nice when a huge crowd sings with us in our concerts and mall shows,” says Yuki.

Now one of the busiest OPM acts, 1:43 received two nominations for their first album “Time for Love” in the prestigious Awit Awards for Best New Group for the song "Pag-ibig Na Kaya?" (also known sa “PiNK”) and Best Christmas Song for "Merry Christmas Na."
To date, 1:43’s Fanpage in Facebook has garnered over 52,000 “Likes” and their YouTube videos are being widely circulated.

The album “Sa Isang Sulyap Mo” by 1:43 is presented by McJIM Leather and is supported by F’g Freshgear and the Mendez Medical Group. More information and updates about 1:43 are available in their official Facebook fan page or you may call Chris Cahilig Talent Services at 6647213 or 6872692.

“Let’s Move & Let’s Love”

“Let’s Move & Let’s Love”
By: Lakwatsera Lovers

It's been 7 months since my girlfriend left me to work in Bahrain and it's been hard for me as we shared 8 years of smiles, adventures, fights and a lot of movies together. And I am going to promise that I would wait for her until her 2 year contract expires in 2014.

Last March I created a simple video greeting for her birthday that is composed of fansigns from people she loves back here in the Philippines. This coming December I am planning to do another act of love that will reminds her that there is one guy back here waiting for her. I'll send her love letters (old school style) that will be delivered onto her doorsteps.

It's hard to have long distance relationships as you wont see each other for a very long time. All you need is to trust your partner and love him/her with all your heart.

United Colors of Benetton launches two of their newest fragrances, Let’s Move for men and Let’s Love for women, we challenge you to move and love.
